Course Description
This course
discusses the history of China from the
early Tang to the early Qing dynasty. The lecture titles are listed
below in chronological order. Throughout the course key social and
economic changes in family organization, agriculture, local society, and
commercial development will be regularly addressed, so that the student
will gain from the course a structured understanding of the major
developments in Chinese social and economic history during these
centuries. Particular attention will be paid to the rise of south
China, the growth of the lineage organization, and the emergence of
capitalistic institutions.
Note:
CUHK students may use this course
to fulfill the CHE, University General Education (Area A)* or
general elective requirements. (* CUHK History majors cannot take this course to fulfil General Education requirements.)
