Course Description
Engineering Science is a discipline concerned with solving practical
problems using scientific and quantitative techniques. The aim of this
course is to provide basic training on logical reasoning, analytical
thinking and problem solving skills through a series of technology
development examples. Students will also be exposed to the latest
state-of-the-art technologies that are pervasive to our modern society.
Such exposures will enable students to appreciate the key deciding
factors associated with success or failure of certain technologies, from
the viewpoint of both business considerations as well as the challenges
of scientific breakthroughs.
Topics for 2009 include: (1)
Modern scripting language programming; (2) Integrated circuits; (3) The
Internet age; (4) The sciences of micro and nano worlds; and (5) Engineering
of decisions.
