Prof. Chiu, Siu Wai graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the Department of Biology, the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1983.  She also got a postgraduate diploma in Biotechnology and Microbiology from University of Tokyo and Osaka University, Japan in 1985.  She completed a Master of Philosophy degree in 1986 with her thesis writing on Biology.  She went to University of Manchester, UK for further study and got her PhD degree in Cell and Structural Biology in 1988.  She has taught in Hong Kong Polytechnic and Hong Kong Baptist College, worked as an education officer in Hong Kong AIDS Foundation and worked as scientific officer in Hospital Authority before she served the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1992.  Her main interest is in basic and applied studies with fungi especially for environmental protection.
