From Secondary School to University
Entering university may be the dream of every secondary school student. However, it has never been an easy task for pre-university students to decide their future studies without learning more about the disciplines in which they are interested in. How can we inspire them and provide them with insights into their future studies?

From Cantonese to English and Putonghua

Hong Kong is a place where East meets West. It is critical that students possess good English and Putonghua skills to face the challenges in their future studies and careers. How can we help students to develop these skills in a fun and effective way?

CUHK Summer Institute 2009 (SI 2009)    Past Programme Highlights

SI 2009 is a two-week residential programme designed for local and international high school students (current Secondary 6 or equivalent) to help them explore their interests in different disciplines before they consider their university programme choices. Moreover, this programme allows students to experience university residential life and improve their levels of spoken English and Putonghua through close interaction with native speakers.

What will students gain?

SI 2009 is designed to create a stimulating, yet practical, summer learning experience for students. During the course of the programme, students will:

  • Learn more about their subjects of interest before they decide on their major programmes for undergraduate studies;
  • Experience the vibrant campus life of CUHK;
  • Enjoy the use of our university facilities;
  • Strengthen spoken English or Putonghua;
  • Have cultural and academic exchange with other students.
