1. If I am studying abroad, can I apply for admission to the Summer Institute 2009?

 

Yes, we consider applications from students studying abroad, but you should pay attention to the medium of instruction and teaching materials of individual modules.

2. Do I need to apply for a visa for my stay in Hong Kong?

 

According to Hong Kong Immigration Department, all students who do not hold a Hong Kong Identity Card are required to obtain a student visa in order to study in Hong Kong.  Our Office will assist you in the student visa application after your registration.  HK$500 will be charged for the student visa application. (Please also make sure that you have a passport valid for six months beyond your travel period.)

3. What are the admission requirements?

 

We do not have any specific admission requirements unless specified by individual modules.  The information that you submit in your application will be considered as a whole.

4. Will there be any interviews?

 

No, there will not be any interviews.

5. When is the application deadline?

 

The application deadline is 30 April 2009. Admission offers will be made on a rolling basis.  Early applications are recommended as offers may be made to qualified applicants prior to the deadline.  Late applications may be put on a waiting list and considered if spaces are available.

 

 

 

6. How will I be notified about the application result?

 

Applicants will be notified about the results of their applications via email.  Students are advised to ensure that their email accounts are functioning properly with at least 200KB of email storage space all times.  

7. Can I use the libraries in the university? 

 

Each student will be issued a University Library Readers’ Card, which can be used for access to materials and resources in the libraries of CUHK.  However, students will not be entitled to borrow library materials or resources.  

8. Is there access to computers/the Internet?

 

Each student will be assigned a computer account, which can be used for access to computer facilities on campus for Internet access.  Moreover, there is Internet access in the undergraduate student hostel.

 

 

9. Do I need to arrange my daily meals?

 

Daily meals will only be provided during the 3-day orientation (17-19/7). For the other days, students have to arrange their own meals.  They can choose to dine at one of the many student canteens located throughout the campus.  Meals cost around HK$15 to HK$30 each.

 

 

10. Will I get a certificate after joining the Summer Institute?

 

Each student will be issued a certificate after the completion of the Summer Institute.  The certificate will be posted to student's mailing address.

 

 

11. Can I cancel my application? And will I get a refund of the programme fee after cancellation?

 

If you have to cancel your application after being admitted, please notify us immediately so that your place can be freed for other applicants on the waiting list.  If we receive a written withdrawal request from you by 17 June 2009, 50% of your programme fee will be refunded.  No refund will be made for requests received after this date.
