A. Scholarship
Sir Edward Youde Memorial Funds Awards are offered at the beginning of every academic years. Students are advised to contact the Office of Admission and Financial Aid for details. Students who are eligible for application will also receive the information via mailserv mailbox.
I. Sir Edward Youde Memorial Awards for Disabled Students
Objective
The Sir Edward Youde Memorial Awards for Disabled Students aim at encouraging disabled students at senior secondary, post-secondary and tertiary levels in their studies as well as the enhance the community’s awareness of their achievements. The Awards will be granted by the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund Council in recognition of the student’s individual merit and academic achievement.
Provision of the award
The award will be in the form of a one-off grant to purchase personal aids or study aids requested by the nominee and certified by the Commissioner for Rehabilitation as suitable and necessary for the nominee’s effective learning.
Conditions of award
(b) The award recipient will be required to comply
with any other conditions which the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund Council
may
stipulate.
(ii) visual impairment; and
(iii) physically handicapped;
(b) they should possess Hong Kong Identity
Cards;
(c) they should have the right of abode or the right to land in Hong Kong or are permitted to stay in Hong Kong without restriction;
(d) they should have resided in Hong Kong for at least five years;
(e) they should be nominated by the heads of their institutions or school principals, on the basis of their academic performance at both internal and public examinations; and
(f) they should have good personal qualities and
potentials.
II. Sir Edward Youde Memorial
Fellowship(s)/Scholarship(s) for Disabled Students
Objective
The fellowship(s)/scholarship(s) awards, administered by the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund Council, are aimed at encouraging and assisting full-time disabled students pursuing postgraduate studies by research and /or undergraduate, diploma and certificate programmes at post-secondary and tertiary levels in Hong Kong.
Number of awards
Averagely there will be 4 awards in the each academic year.
Provision of the fellowship(s)/scholarship(s)
(b) A scholarship recipient will be offered a one-off grant of $25,000.
(C) Successful candidates will not be required
to relinquish fellowships, scholarships or bursaries held concurrently and
neither
will the value of the fellowship/scholarship be reduced in such
circumstances.
Candidates should –
(b) have the right of abode or the right to land in Hong Kong or are permitted to stay in Hong Kong without restriction;
(c) have resided in Hong Kong for at least threes years;
(d) fall under one of the following categories
of
disabilities
(ii) profound hearing impairment/severe hearing impairment; and
(iii) physically handicapped
(f) not be nominated for Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarships for Undergraduate, Diploma and Certificate Students or Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowships for Postgraduate Research Students.
(a) All candidates will be selected by the
Council on the following basis:
(ii) leadership qualities as demonstrated in his/her involvement in extra-curricular activities and/or community services;
(iii) proficiency in the language in which the course/research is undertaken; and
(iv) other personal qualities and potentials including expected future contribution to Hong Kong
(b) The following criteria will also be
considered by the Council in selecting postgraduate candidates for the
fellowship:
(ii) the research not having been or being done in Hong Kong; and
(iii) the possible completion date of the research being within 2 years for a master degree or 3 years for a doctorate degrees
B. Special Examination Arrangement
At the request and special need of each disable student, consideration on extra time, special reading device, computer or any necessary equipment or examination venue will be arranged.

D. Disabled car park spaces
There are four car park spaces available for disabled person.
1. Car park at university station (Block E of Chung Chi Campus)
2. In front of the Daisy Li Hall of New Asia Campus
3. Near the Canteen of United College
4. Car park of Ho Sin Hang Engineering Building
E. Regulations for booking rehabilitation bus
The service of rehabilitation bus is only provided to students of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
1. Students with disabilities should contact Miss Heidi Hui of Office of Student Affairs at 3943 4766, with doctor's certification of the disabilities.
2. For requesting the temporary use of the rehabilitation bus service, the approval should be made by the director of the University Health Service. Furthermore, the period of time used should be mentioned at the stage of application.
3. The Transport Unit of the Security and Transport Office should be informed of the use of the rehabilitation bus at least 1 week before. Please contact the Transport Unit at 3943-7990.
4. Cancellation of the provision of rehabilitation bus service should be informed to the Transport Unit of the Security and Transport Office at least 1 working day before. Please contact the Transport Unit at 3943-7990.
