Daily Requirement
for children over 2 years and adults

Photo1. Protein intake of 1 gm/kg body mass would be adequate for most infants and children. An 18 months old infant has an average weight of 10 kg and therefore 10gm per day would be adequate. 10 gm protein can be provided by 4 bottles of 5 oz early starting infant formula or 2 bottles of 4 oz follow on formula or 1 bowl of rice served with 1 egg.

Photo2. Dietary fat is often consumed more than our body's need. Essential fatty acids are mainly found in seeds (plant origin). Traditional Chinese diet contains dietary fat contributing to 15% of total energy intake whereas in traditional western diet it is 45%. There is a trend for the Chinese diet to increase and the western diet to decrease dietary fat.

3. 25% dietary fat in the 1400-1800 kcal daily diet of children and adolescents is equivalent to 40-50 gm fat. There is no benefit to have dietary fat greater than this amount.
