Over 200 delegates from 14 countries in four continents attended an international symposium organized by the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery of the CUHK Department of Surgery. The 'First Symposium on Cardiovascular Science─From Bench to Bedside' took place on 23rd and 24th November in the Postgraduate Education Centre of the Faculty of Medicine.
The symposium covered several important topics at the frontier of cardiovascular medicine, including nitric oxide and other endothelium derived factors, ion channels and vascular control, heart failure, aortic root and heart dynamism, endothelium and cellular protection, and the prevention of vein graft failure.
Prof. A.S. Wechsler, editor of the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, gave a special lecture on the current roles of a specialty medical journal in a time of change. And Prof. Louis Ignarro delivered a Wei Lun Lecture.
There were also poster and exhibition viewing sessions. The entire proceedings of this symposium will be published in the Journal of Cardiac Surgery.
