Li & Fung 95th Anniversary Lecture on Commerce
and Industry
The Li & Fung 95th Anniversary Lecture, organized by the MBA Programmes of the Faculty of Business Administration, was held on 30th November 2001 in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Prof. Paul Krugman, professor of economics and international affairs of Princeton University, spoke on the topic of 'Return of the Return of Depression Economics', citing the cases of Argentina, Japan, and USA. The talk was well attended by more than 500 participants, including government officials, businessmen, MBA alumni and students. After the lecture, a reception was held to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the Li & Fung Group. Prof. Paul Krugman also delivered a lecture earlier that day in Li Koon Chun Hall on CUHK campus. Entitled 'Lessons from Japanese Depression', his lecture stimulated insightful discussion on Hong Kong's economy which some believe is on the brink of a recession. Prof. Krugman received his BA from Yale University and his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Having served as chief international economist of the US Council of Economic Advisers, his professional reputation rests largely on work in international trade and finance. Prof. Krugman is the author of more than 20 books and 200 papers. He is also known internationally for his columns in The New York Times, Fortune Magazine, and Slate. |
