New Pro-Vice-Chancellor

程伯中教授分別於一九七七及八一年取得利物浦大學工 程學士一等榮譽學位與博士學位，一九八四年加入本校電子工 程學系。程教授於一九九八至二零零三年獲選出任工程學院院 長。二零零四年二月，程教授獲委任為逸夫書院院長。

The Council of The Chinese University of Hong Kong has appointed Prof. Ching Pak Chung as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, for a period of two years from 1st August 2006. Prof. Ching will continue to serve concurrently as head of Shaw College and professor of electronic engineering. Including Prof. Ching, there are four pro-vice-chancellors at CUHK. The other three are Prof. Kenneth Young, Prof. Liu Pak Wai and Prof. Jack Cheng.

Prof. Ching received his bachelor degree (first class honours) and doctoral degree from the University of Liverpool in 1977 and 1981 respectively. In 1984, he joined The Chinese University. Prof. Ching was dean of engineering from 1998 to 2003. In February 2004, he was appointed head of Shaw College.

新任講座教授
Professorial Appointment

黃教授於一九九二年取得多倫多大學哲學博士學位，曾於 香港大學、約克大學和嶺南學院任教，加入中大服務前為嶺南 大學翻譯系教授兼系主任。

Prof. Laurence Wong Kwok Pun has been appointed professor of translation from 1st August 2006.

Prof. Wong received his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in 1992, and has taught at The University of Hong Kong and York University. Prior to joining CUHK, he was head of the Department of Translation of Lingnan University.

United College 50th Anniversary

2006 marks the 50th Anniversary of United College. The slogan of the college's 50th anniversary is 'Together we innovate, united we advance'. The college will celebrate this joyful occasion with a galaxy of programmes and events in the 2006-07 academic year.

The programmes fall into six categories: special celebratory programmes, academic programmes, cultural and art programmes, publication, alumni and student programmes. To launch the 50th anniversary, the opening ceremony of Si Yuan Amphitheatre will be held at 10.00 a.m. on 15th September 2006 on United College campus. 1. The C.Y. Kwan Endowment Fund for Staff Development, the Lee Hysan Foundation Endowment Fund for Staff Development and the Sino-British Fellowship Trust Fund are now open for application. 2. CUHK Joins Action Blue Sky

The University is one of 30 companies and academic institutions that pledged to comply with 'Energy Conservation Charter 2006 - Suitable Room Temperature' of the 'Action Blue Sky' campaign launched on 25th July by the government's Environmental Protection Department to improve Hong Kong's air quality. The aim of the charter is to encourage participating organizations and individuals to save energy in their daily lives and adhere to the principle of 'use if required, save if possible'.

一百八十七項計劃獲研究資助局撥款
RGC Research Grants 2006-2007

是年中大共有一百八十七項研究計劃取得競爭性撥款，資助金額共計一億一千一百 餘萬元，另獲一千四百餘萬元直接撥款。獲撥款計劃分屬生物學及醫學（六十項）、工 程學（四十八項）、自然科學（三十二項）和人文、社會科學及商科（四十七項），詳 見研究及科技事務處的網頁 http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/rtao/rtao.htm。

A total of 187 research proposals submitted by academic and research staff of the University have been awarded earmarked grants totalling HK$111.68 million from the Research Grants Council (RGC) this year. The University also received a direct allocation of HK$14.12 million to finance small projects.

For 2006-07, the government has made available some HK$489.33 million for selected research proposals submitted by academic and research personnel in the UGCfunded tertiary institutions and HK$65 million for direct allocation to the institutions to finance small projects.

The 187 CUHK projects selected for earmarked grants fall into four subject disciplines: biology and medicine (60); engineering (48); physical sciences (32); and the humanities, social sciences and business studies (47). For details please refer to http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/rtao/rtao.htm.

Please be informed that the form for investment option change effective 1st September 2006 is now downloadable from the Bursary website at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/bursary/optionform and obtainable from the Payroll and Superannuation Unit of the Bursary. The completed form should be sent by mail or faxed (2603 7890) to the unit on or before 21st August 2006 (Monday).

Renewal of Parking Label for 2006-2007

申領時，須將舊證交還保安組。基於私隱及保安理由，持證人須親臨或委託代表到保 安組辦理換證手續。

Eligible holders of University parking labels are informed that labels for the 2005-06 school year are due to expire on 30th September 2006. You are required to return the old label in exchange for the new label when submitting your new application. The application could be made in person or through a designated representative.
