Applications

Invite and review research grant applications; ensure proposals' compliance with funding agency and University guidelines; arrange for institutional endorsement and submission of applications

Awards

Review (and when necessary negotiate) awards prior to acceptance; accept awards officially on behalf of the University; coordinate the setting-up of project accounts

Maintenance and monitoring

Monitor project progress; handle or coordinate requests for changes of project details; coordinate report submission; verify accuracy of reports and ensure compliance with funding agency requirements; in rare cases, coordinate the steps required for the termination of projects

Academic editing

Proofread, edit, and advise on the structure and presentation of English-language grant applications and research papers

Information services and management

Data collection and maintenance

Collate project data; maintain an electronic database of research project information

Information services

Provide research project information to faculty members and University administrators; compile periodic and ad hoc research-related statistics and reports; assist faculty members to identify potential funding opportunities; maintain the RAO website

Policy development and implementation

Research Committee

Support the Research Committee in developing, implementing and maintaining the University's research policies

Enhancement of research portfolio

Focused Investments Scheme

Administer the Focused Investments Scheme under the University's Strategic Plan, under which major new resources including endowment income and earmarked external donations are invested in chosen areas

Research funding schemes

Administer various research-related funding schemes including Research Incentive Scheme, Direct Grant for Research, Group Research Scheme, Central Budget for Appointment of Research Assistant Professors, Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme, RPG Travel Grants and Research Excellence Awards

Research assessment exercises

Coordinate the external Research Assessment Exercise (conducted by the University Grants Committee) and the Internal Research Assessment Exercise
