The emergence of women writers in China's public sphere almost a century ago was closely linked to the development of major cities. Ever since then, the city has been the chosen milieu of the majority of Chinese writing women. In this collection, five of the most brilliant women writers from Taiwan confront issues facing women born and bred in big cities.
