III. Past Conferences

Conferences are among RCT's core activities. Over the years, the Centre has organized numerous lectures, conferences, and seminars on Translation Studies on a regular basis, many in collaboration with sister institutions in China, Taiwan, and Europe. In the last few years, we have increased our activity in Translation Studies intensely and are constantly looking for ways to engage and nurture young talent in Translation Studies from around the world. Our most notable event is the biennial Young Researchers' Conference on Chinese Translation Studies, which has seen many promising young scholars actively engaging in original research in translation studies.

In 2017, RCT hosted the prestigious The Second International Conference on Chinese Translation History at CUHK. This exciting conference provided a great opportunity for scholars to meet and establish closer links with international colleagues in the field of Translation Studies.

In the coming years, RCT will organize more conferences, seminars and workshops on different topics in Translation Studies, in particular those generated from the projects supported by RCT Research Programme Fund.

It was a sequel to three previous conferences held at AHRB Centre for Asian and African Literatures in London (2004), the Adivasi Academy in Tejgadh, India (2005), and Boğaziçi University in Istanbul (2008). Like the previous conferences, the fourth conference aimed to explore the Eurocentric bias of Translation Studies by exploring the richness and diversity of non-Western discourses and practices of translation. The focus was on translational exchanges among non-Western languages and change and continuity in Asian translation traditions.
