Guan Yunshi (Kuan Yün-shih) 1286-1324

Was one of the great writers of Yuan sanqu (lyric verse) and was also famous in his own time for his shi poetry and prose. He was born into the non-Chinese ruling class of the Mongol period but his sympathies seem to have been pro-Chinese and he studied Neo-Confucianism and was appointed to the Hanlin Academy. He resigned in 1317 and lived near Hangzhou until his death. Most of his lyrics date from this period.
