Liu Changqing (Liu Ch'ang-ch'ing) ca.710-ca.789

One of the more important poets who did not come to prominence until after the An Lushan rebellion (755-763). Born in present-day Hebei province, Liu obtained the jinshi degree in 733 and spent most of his official career in the Salt Administration, although he was periodically imprisoned or exiled. His political grievances were often reflected in works bewailing his exile and extolling the beauty of nature.
