Liu Xianting 1648-1695

An eager and diligent student from childhood on, Liu became proficient in a wide range of subjects which included astronomy, agriculture and weaponry. He was considered an expert in geography and phonology. He assisted in the compilation of the Ming shi [History of the Ming Dynasty] and Yitong zhi [A Record of Unification]. Liu's poems written on a variety of themes are invariably full of spirit. Except for the collection Guangyang zaji [Miscellany of Guangyang], most of his work is lost.
