Liu Yiqing (Liu I-ch'ing) 403-444

A Liu-Song prince who compiled and shaped the Shishuo xinyu [New account of tales of the world] compilation into a literary work of art. The anecdotes and information it contains would be important on their own, but it is its style—an elegant, succinct and yet colloquial reworking of historical or pseudo-historical material—which has attracted continuing admiration.
