Qiao Ji (Qiao Mengfu) ?-1345

Styled Mengfu, Qiao was born in present-day Shanxi province. Known for his erudition and handsome appearance, he led a dissipated life in his youth, moderated only when approaching middle age. Despite his talents, he never found success in his career and spent forty years wandering through Hunan, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Fujian and other parts of China. He left his mark on Yuan dynasty literature through his plays, and a theory on sanqu writing which is still influential today.
