Sun Shiyi ®]®v¼Ý1904-1966

Sun was a leftist screenwriter and lyricist in the 1930s. He originally studied chemistry but went to Shanghai in 1924 to study at the National University of Politics. In the late 1920s, he established a name for himself as a film critic. The New Woman was his first film script, and propelled him to fame. He participated in the writing of other films, such as Sun Yu's ®]·ì classic Da lu ¤j¸ô (Big road, a.k.a. The highway; 1935), until the war disrupted film-making. He was persecuted at the onset of the Cultural Revolution (1966¡V76).
