Wang Fu

Han-dynasty prose writer born in present day Gansu province. According to Herbert Giles, he "distinguished himself in youth by his learning and ambition" and became a friend of many notable men of the times. He never took office, spent his life in seclusion, and is one of the best known hermits in Chinese history. His major work, the Qianfu lun [Essays by a hermit], criticizes the political abuses current in his age.
