Wang Jiusi (Wang Chiu-ssu) 1468-1551

Ming-dynasty poet and dramatist. Born in Huxian in present day Shanxi province, Wang rose rapidly in the bureaucracy until trumped-up charges resulted in his dismissal from the Hanlin Academy. He is known primarily for two dramas—the Zhongshan lang yuanben [The wolf of Zhongshan: a short drama] and Du Zimei gujiu youchun [Du Fu sells wine and roams in the spring]—both of which make use of political satire.
