Yan Chungou (Ngan Shun Kau) 1948-

Yan was born and grew up in Fujian province. During the Cultural Revolution (1966¡V1976), he was assigned to work as a farmer and later an electrician for the Fujian railways, experiences which are an important source for his creative work. Yan moved to Hong Kong in 1978 where he worked his way up the local publishing industry, progressing from typesetter to proofreader and then literary editor; he also began his career as a writer. His short story collections include Hongludeng ¬õºñ¿O [Traffic lights] (1984) and Tian qian ¤ÑÄþ [The censure of heaven] (1992).
