Yang Kui (Yang K'uei) [real name Yang Gui] 1905-1985

Contemporary Taiwan writer. Yang Kui went to university in Japan in 1924 and majored in literature. After his return to Taiwan he became an activist opposing Japanese colonialism and was repeatedly arrested and imprisoned. His literary career began in 1934 when he became literary editor of Taiwan wenyi. Because of his pro-Communist stance, he was arrested by the Nationalist government in Taiwan in 1949 and imprisoned for 12 years.
