Yuan Haowen 1190-1257

Jin-dynasty poet, writer and historian. Born in Xinzhou in present day Shanxi province, Yuan enjoyed a brief official career before the Jin dynasty fell to the Mongols in 1233. Thereafter, he largely devoted himself to the compilation of Jin-dynasty poetry and the drafting of a dynastic history. He wrote over 1300 shi poems. He is renowned for his poems on the demise of the Jin, as well as for poems on poetry such as Lun shi sanshi shou [Thirty poems on poetry]. He also composed ci which are regarded as innovative in their utilisation of new themes.
