Yuan Yuan [real name Mok Yuen Chong 莫圓莊]

Born in Guangxi, Yuan Yuan came to Hong Kong as a child. After graduation in 1967 from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a major in journalism, she worked in the news and broadcasting media and wrote essays for some of the leading local Chinese newspapers, such as Mingpao 明報 and Sing Tao Daily 星島日報. A major characteristic of her essays is her sharp wit. Her many essay collections include Hei, bai, fang, yuan 黑白方圓 [Black, white, square and circle] (1982) and Gangdao wu'ai 港島吾愛 [Hong Kong, my love] (1985). Yuan Yuan migrated to Canada in 1987.
