Yu Qian 1328-1457

Ming-dynasty poet from present day Hangzhou. He obtained his jinshi degree in 1421 and pursued an active career as an official. In his views on poetry, he opposed imitation. His own work is often lyrical in impulse, seeking to lend full expression to feelings; it is also frequently realistic in its depiction of everyday life. His principal collection is the Yu Xiaomin gong ji.
