Zhang Wenda [real name Zhang Xiaoquan 張孝權] 1921-2003

Zhang was born to a family of scholars in Hunan and suffered considerable hardship in the Cultural Revolution. He worked as a journalist in Shanghai before coming in 1980 to Hong Kong, where he was an editor at Chung Pao Monthly 中報月刊 and Hong Kong Daily News 新報, and a columnist for Sing Tao Daily 星島日報, Hong Kong Economic Journal 信報 and Ming Pao 明報. Zhang also wrote under another pen name, Lin Xun 林洵. Collections of his essays include Daoying 倒影 [Reflection] (1986) and Niupeng zayi 牛棚雜憶 [Memories of the cowshed] (1992).
