Zhang Zhongshu

Zhang Zhongshu (Chang Chung-shu) ?-819?

Tang-dynasty-poet from present day Anhui province. In 798 he passed the jinshi examinations, but lacking backing at court was not appointed to office immediately. He fared better under Emperor Yonghe with a series of appointments. His name as a poet is often associated with that of Wang Ya and Linghu Chu. Most of his poetry was written in the forms of yuefu and jueju; in terms of subject matter, Zhang excelled in descriptions of women in love.
