Patent activities at the University formally started in 1993. As of September 2005, the University and its staff secured 4 registered trademarks related to technology transfer and 60 patents (32 US, 1 European, 12 Chinese, 5 Taiwanese and 10 Hong Kong), covering the fields of pharmaceutics, biotechnology, material science, information technology, and medical technology. Many of the patented technologies have since been successfully commercialized and licensed to commercial entities.
