Committee on Health Promotion and Protection
Universities can play a very important role to
promote and protect the health of students and staff. The aim is to create
health-conductive working, learning and living environments, to promote health
promotion in teaching and research and to be a resource provision to the university and the community. The development of healthy universities has
the strong support by WHO.
The Advisory Committee on Health Promotion and
Protection will formulate policy, develop strategic implement on health
promotion and protection issues for sustainality.

Committee on Health Promotion and
Protection
The CUHK
Campus (SARS) Task Force was set up in March 2003 to advise the University
on SARS-related matters. The Task Force has implemented a range of SARS preventive measures and
coordinated the effects of various offices to prevent the spread of SARS on
campus. The SARS experience has brought up an important message that our health is
inter-related with our living environment. The Task Force was re-named as the
Committee on Health Promotion and Protection to further safeguard our
health.

University
Health Service (UHS)
Besides providing medical and dental service to
staff and dependents, students, the University Health Service also plays an important role in
health promotion and education. A series of health-related activities are
organized, such as Hepatitis Awareness Campaign, First-aid class, health talks
and luncheon health talk series co-organized with
the Personnel Office. Please see the updates for the past and upcoming health education events organized by the UHS. Leaflets
on different diseases can be obtained at the Health Education Room, 1/F, University
Health Centre. All staff and students are welcome to visit the Health Education Unit
for advice and information.
The University Mental Health Co-ordinating Group
was jointly organized by the University Health Service and the Office of Student Affairs.
The Student Mental Health Enhancement Programme aims to enhance the awareness
and understanding of mental illnesses among frontline personnel and
professionals who often deal with students in the University community.

of Public Health
School of Public Health offers courses and
degree across all areas of public health practice. It also organizes seminars and conferences on different
health issues. The mission is to contribute to the improvement
of the health of populations locally, nationally and internationally through
excellence in research, teaching and training in public health, working in
collaboration with partners from all relevant disciplines and institutions.

United College
Task Force on Health Promotion of United College organizes different activities with relevant College or University organizations. These activities include health screening, health talks and 'Campus Health Ambassadors' programme, which aim at raising health awareness of students and staff members. United College is also a health promoting college in CUHK.

Chung Chi College
Chung Chi College is celebrating their 55th Anniversary in 2006. The College's various offices and committees hold a number of health activities for students and staff. Such activities include seminars, workshops, field trips, Tolo Nocturne, Outward Bound Training Programme, Cultural Study Trips to France/Germany etc. She is also supportive to the Campus Health Ambassadors programme organized by theAdvisory Committee on Health Promotion and Protection.

New Asia College
New Asia College stresses the study and promotion of traditional Chinese culture. The college also implement to be a health promoting college in the University. She is also a supporting Unit to the Campus Health Ambassadors programme.

Shaw College is named after its patron, Sir Run Run Shaw who donated generously towards the establishment of the College. She is also a supporting Unit to the Campus Health Ambassadors programme.

Centre
of Health Education and Health Promotion
The Centre of Health Education and Health
Protection has pioneered the healthy
setting approach to promote health initiatives in Hong Kong including 'Healthy
Cities' movement and 'Healthy School' programmes, which enable individuals to
develop their personal skills, knowledge and social networks, and empower the
communities to identify and to establish the link with service providers meeting
their health needs. The Centre launched the first territory wide "Hong Kong
Healthy Schools Award Scheme" for Primary and Secondary School and gained
positive feedback.

Office
of Student Affairs - Student Counselling and Development
There is an increase of mental health awareness
recently, especially among students. The Office of Student Affairs organized a
series of mental health activities each year, including self-enhancement program
for freshmen, personal growth workshops, mental health education leaflets and
guides, Integrative Student Development Programmes on enhancing students’
cross-cultural sensitivity, personal independence and interpersonal skills.
There are also student counseling services to help students with stress and
personal growth problems.

WHO
Collaborating Centre for Sports Medicine
and Health Promotion
The establishment of the CUHK-WHO
Collaborating Centre for Sports Medicine and Health Promotion is a leap forward
to amplify the work in sports medicine in contribution to the Asia Pacific
region. The mission is to achieve the ultimate aim of health promotion and
disease prevention through education and research in sports medicine. They
organizes activities and talks to raise public awareness of the benefits of
exercise through a promotion oriented approach in the Asia Pacific region. The
Centre also acts as the role model of "Health Promotion through Sports
Medicine and Sports Science" in the Asia Pacific region.

of Research and Promotion of Women's Health (CRPWH)
The Centre of Research and Promotion of Women's
Health (CRPWH) is under the School of Public Health of Chinese University of
Hong Kong. It aims at improving women's health throughout their whole lifespan
by conducting various research programmes of local relevance. Moreover, the
center offers a wide range of evidence based health assessments and nutritional
counseling services for women with the aim that they can have a better
understanding of their own health, and can adopt earlier preventive measures and
early treatments. The centre also liaises with different communities and
organizations to provide health talks and some basic health examinations.

Control
The Chinese University of Hong Kong Jockey Club
Centre for Osteoporosis Care and Control was established in 2001. The mission is
to promote healthier bone for all and an improved quality of life for
osteoporosis sufferers. The Centre also organizes talks for the public to
increase their knowledge on osteoporosis and take preventive actions at young.

for Emerging Infectious Diseases
The Centre for Emerging Infectious Diseases
conducts research on epidemiology, basic sciences and clinical management on
emerging infectious diseases such as SARS, influenza, hepatitis and AIDS. The
mission is to enhance the control of emerging infectious diseases locally,
nationally, regionally and globally. The Centre provides training on infectious
disease control to health care professionals and researchers, promotes
infectious disease preparedness in the hospital and university environment, and
provides consultancy services in the field of emerging infectious diseases.

Kong Mood Disorders Centre
Hong Kong Mood Disorders Centre
consists a team of psychiatrists and psychologists. The Centre promotes
knowledge on mood disorder through organizing different activities such as
individual counselling, consultations, talks, group gatherings and related
activity including Defeat
Depression Week. The aim is to raise the concern on mood disorder diseases
in the public and to receive treatment as soon as possible.

Association of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUSA)
Besides suggesting the staff's view on
University Policy and providing special offer to member staff, CUSA also
organizes different activities for member staff and their dependants, these
include a series of health-related talks, such as Chinese medicine, children's

University Safety and Environment Office
(USEO)
The University Safety and Environment Office is
responsible for the safety and environment issues in the university. Besides
setting guidelines on safe workplace and protecting green environment in the
campus, USEO also organize some workshops and give talks on safe workplace
during induction programme of new staff.

Chinese Medicine
The School of Chinese Medicine provides
professional education in Chinese Medicine. The teaching clinic also give a
choice for staff and students in curing. Besides, their students establish a Working
Group in organizing different activities in promoting the use of Chinese
Medicine in daily life.

Nethersole School of Nursing
The Nethersole School of Nursing is the first
academic department of nursing in Hong Kong. The emphasis of the School is on
high quality undergraduate and postgraduate nurse education so that nurses can
make a major contribution to improving health for the people of Hong Kong. The Wellness
Centre of the School aims to enhance awareness of and promote healthy
lifestyles among women and men. The Centre provides health assessments in
different aspects for promoting healthy lifestyle to the public. It also serves
a training centre for the nursing students in health promotion and assessment.
