Department of Statistics

In an effort to enhance secondary school students’ knowledge as well as their interest in Statistics and Risk Management Science, the Department of Statistics provides talks, conducts visits and workshops on Statistics learning which are designed especially for secondary school students.

  1. Popular Science Talk

    The Department of Statistics and Risk Management Science Programme sends teachers to secondary schools presenting talks to secondary school students. With the use of daily live examples, students can grasp the idea of Statistics and Risk Management Science. Topics of the talks include "Risk: Everything You Wanted To Know But Were Afraid To Ask", "The Art of Statistical Graphics", "Statistical Applications in Daily Lives" and "Drug Test".

  2. Workshop on Statistics Learning

    A pilot workshop on statistics learning was held for students of Immaculate Heart of Mary College on 21 November, 2004. 15 students and 2 teachers participated in the workshop and they found the workshop to be practical and enjoyable.

  3. Visits to the Department

    To let secondary school students better understand our Department, we have organized visits for 5 secondary schools during 2003-04.
