Professor Henry Wong Nai-ching
Dean of Science

Professor Wong obtained his B.Sc. degree with first class honours from CUHK in 1973, and was subsequently awarded a Shell Scholarship for Postgraduate Studies in the United Kingdom. He furthered his studies at University College London where he obtained his Ph.D. in 1976. He returned to CUHK in 1983 and was appointed as Pro-Vice-Chancellor by the University in 2009. He assumed the role of Interim Dean of Science in September 2012 and hopes to ensure a smooth transition and continuity at the Faculty. In April 2013, he was officially appointed Dean of Science.

 
Professor Dickon Ng Hang-leung
Associate Dean (Student Affairs)

Professor Ng obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Manitoba in 1989 and conducted his postdoctoral research in the Department of Materials at the University of Oxford. In 1991, Professor Ng joined the Department of Physics at the CUHK, and has served the Faculty of Science as the Associate Dean (Student Affairs) since 2008. Professor Ng maintains strong ties with students and ensures that students and the Faculty have open communication.
 
Professor Poon Wai-yin
Associate Dean (Education)

Professor Poon obtained both her B.Sc. degree (1983, Major in Mathematics and Minor in Economics and Statistics) and M.Phil. degree (1985, Major in Statistics) from the CUHK. Professor Poon obtained her Ph.D. degree (1987, Major in Biostatistics; Minor in Psychology) from UCLA, and then her M.B.A. degree (1996, with distinction) from the University of Hull. She has been serving the Faculty as Associate Dean (Education) since November 2004, and is deeply devoted to improving teaching and learning quality, and the promotion of science education to the general public.
 
Professor Xie Zuowei
Associate Dean (Research)

Professor Xie obtained his B.Sc. degree from Hangzhou University, followed by his M.Sc. degree from the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (Chinese Academy of Sciences) in 1986, and his Ph.D. degree jointly from the Technische Universität Berlin and the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (Chinese Academy of Sciences) in 1990. Professor Xie joined the CUHK in 1995 and has served as the Associate Dean (Research) since October 2009. He works closely with the staff and students to improve the quality of research as the Faculty of Science at the CUHK leads Hong Kong in scientific innovation.

 

Professor Thomas Au Kwok-keung
Assistant Dean

Professor Au obtained his B.Sc. degree in Mathematics (1982, New Asia College) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a Certificate of Education (distinction) from the University of Hong Kong.  He received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from University of California, San Diego, under the supervision of Michael Freedman (Fields Medalist 1986).  He then joined the Department of Mathematics in 1990 and was appointed as Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Science in 2011.  He has participated in gifted mathematics education of Hong Kong for the past 10 years.

 
Professor Leung Kwok-nam
Assistant Dean

Professor Leung obtained his B.Sc. degree in Biochemistry (1977, United College) at the CUHK, then received his Ph.D. in Microbiology from the Australian National University in 1981. Professor Leung has been teaching at the Department of Biochemistry since 1983, and was appointed as Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Science in 2007.
 

Professor Tom Wan Yau-heng
Assistant Dean

Professor Wan obtained his B.Sc. degree in Mathematics (1986, United College) at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Professor Wan has been teaching at the Department of Mathematics since 1990 even before he received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Stanford University in 1991. Professor Wan was appointed as Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Science in 2010.

 
Professor Wong Kam-Bo
Assistant Dean

Professor Wong received his B.Sc. (1990, United College) and M.Phil. (1993) in Biochemistry at the CUHK, and obtained his Ph.D. (1997) in the laboratory of Professor Alan Fersht at the University of Cambridge. He worked as research associate in the laboratories of Professor Fersht and Professor Valerie Daggett (University of Washington) before he joined CUHK in 1999. Professor Wong has been serving the Faculty as Assistant Dean since 2009.
