Travel Information

Visa Requirements: You are strongly advised to check the visa requirements based on your country of residence and citizenship. One helpful site we can suggest is this Government of Hong Kong website. If you require a letter of invitation to the summer school and/or workshop to support your visa application please contact Mr. Timothy Lam or one of the CCMI co-chairs who can arrange for issuing a letter.

Travel in Hong Kong: The Mass Transit Railway (MTR) has an extensive network of passenger rail, including stops at the airport and the CUHK campus. A map of the MTR network can be found here. Note that the University Station at the CUHK campus is on the East Rail Line, shown in light blue, and is shown on the map near the center at the top of the map.

If you will be travelling to CUHK every day we strongly recommend that you obtain an On-Loan Octopus Card. The card can be purchased at the airport and at almost all MTR stations and can be used on the rail and bus networks across Hong Kong, the Airport Express train and even for the Star Ferry across the harbour.

Travel From the Airport: If you are travelling directly from the airport to the CUHK campus, go to the Ground Transportation Centre at the airport and take bus A41/E42 to the Sha Tin Central Bus Terminal. Then walk two minutes to the MTR Sha Tin Station and take the MTR East Rail Line northbound to University Station.

If you are travelling into Hong Kong from the airport, consider the Airport Express.

Workshop Venue: Oral sessions of the workshop will take place in room LT1A on Level 1 the Cheng Yu Tung (CYT) building. CYT is located about a one-minute walk from the University Station on the MTR East Rail Line and just beside the Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Sha Tin Hotel.

If arriving on the MTR be sure to use exit B of the station. A map of the location around the University MTR station including the CYT building can be found here

Summer School Venue: The CCMI summer school will take place on the premises of the Earth System Science Programme at CUHK. More details, including room numbers and directions to the building, will be coming soon.

Accommodation: The following hotels are recommended for the convenience commuting to the workshop venue at CUHK:
