Aspirations Bursting through the Sky

Symbols point beyond
themselves, beyond words,
beyond images
and probing heart and mind
promise miracles
of accomplishment.

We have stood right there
on steps with college
teachers in our groups
around college heads
facing cameras
with our smiles and gowns,

magnificent flowers
among the darker trees.

We ourselves are now
symbols. We inspect
this picture of beak,
or pointing finger,
or reclining legs,
knees bent under sky
of many colours,
possibilities
galore.
