In recent decades, the application of science in footwear research and development has emerged as a new science. Last year we invited
Dr Edward C. Ned Frederick to give a fruitful lecture on the application of scientific techniques and measurements. This year it is our honour to invite Prof Roger Bartlett from New Zealand, Prof Mario Lamontagne from Canada, Prof Young-Tae Lim from Korea, Prof Ravindra S. Goonetilleke, Prof Ming Zhang, Prof Wen J. Li and Mr Yuk-Ming Tang from Hong Kong to present their professional knowledge and the most recent biomechanics and engineering techniques in shoe design.
Hong Kong, as a lively, bilingual and international harbour city, is striving to become one of the world's centres of excellence, and welcomes the opportunity to host the "Application of Science in Footwear Research and Development" conference.

Hong Kong is a gateway to Asia and the West, and will form a meeting point for footwear professionals from all parts of the world. This conference will offer insights into how science and technology can be applied to the research and development of footwear products.
The Organizing Committee looks forward to welcoming you to ASFD2005!
