The following members of United College have been promoted / appointed: - Professor Ng Pak Cheung as Professor of Paediatrics with effect 1 October 2005. - Professor Chu Hung Lam, Department of History, as Professor 1 with effect from 1 October 2005. - Professor Wei Juncheng, Department of Mathematics, as Professor 1 with effect from 1 October 2005. - Professor Vincent Lai, Department of Decision Sciences and Managerial Economics, as Professor 1 with effective from 1 Oct 2005.

二零零五年中文大學教職員週年舞會 中大教職員會所及四書院之教職員聯誼會將於二零零五年十二月十六日（星期五）晚上七時假香港沙田賽馬會宴會廳舉行中大教職員週年舞會。舞會內容多姿多釆，包括豐富晚宴，幸運抽獎及輕歌妙舞。餐舞會費用每位六百元正，訂一席十位或以上及於十二月前訂位，更可獲得九折優惠。聯合書院教職員聯誼會為鼓勵更多會員參加，將推出「買一送一」大優惠，名額只限五位，先到先得。有興趣參加之會員，請致電2609 7345與書院學生輔導處阮小姐聯絡。

2005 CUHK Annual Ball The 2005 CUHK Staff Ball, organized jointly by the Staff Common Room Club (SCR), Federation of Alumni Association of CUHK and Staff Associations of the four Colleges, will be held on Friday, 16 December 2005 at 7:00pm at the Shatin Jockey Club Banquet Hall. This year's Staff Ball will again feature a lavish 4-course dinner, a lucky draw with attractive prizes, and dancing until midnight. Tickets at $600 per person will include dinner and table wine. Booking of tables of 10 before December 2005 will enjoy a 10% discount. To encourage more members to join, the United College Staff Association will offer a “buy one get one free” deal for five members on a “first come first serve” basis. News from the UC Staff Association
1) Membership Fees 2005-2006 membership fee for the United College Staff Association will be deducted from members’ November 2005 salary. The fee is HK$150 for members on Terms of Service A and HK$100 for those on Terms of Service B & C. For enquires please contact Ms Carol Yuen of Dean of Students’ Office at 2609 7345.

二零零五至二零零六年度學生校園培訓及服務獎勵計劃
為協助同學獲得實際工作及研究經驗，書院設有一項「學生校園培訓及服務獎勵計劃」，鼓勵教職員任用同學作學生助手。學生助手目前的獎勵金額為每小時港幣五十元，服務範圍甚廣並遍及各系及行政部門。
二零零五至二零零六年度學生校園培訓及服務獎勵計劃第二輪撥款現正接受申請。輔導處將於十一月八日寄發申請資料予本院教職員。如有查詢，請致電學生輔導處彭詠芯女士2609 7562或陳鄧翠怡女士2609 8657。
截止申請日期為十一月二十二日，書院將於二零零五年十二月底前通知各申請人有關結果。

Student Campus Training and Service Award Scheme for 2005/2006
The College has set up a Student Campus Training and Service Award Scheme to help students gain useful work experiences and research experience. Under the Scheme, students are engaged as helpers to serve at various academic and administrative departments and units. At present, the hourly award rate is HK$50. Interested students can apply for registration as student helpers at the College Dean of Students’ Office.
Applications are now invited for the second-round allocation of the “UC Student Campus Training and Service Award Scheme for 2005/2006”. Application materials will be dispatched to College members on 8 November 2005. For further information please contact Ms Sam Pang (Tel : 2609 7562) or Mrs Eastre Chan (Tel : 2609 8657) of the Dean of Students’ Office. Completed application forms should be submitted by 22 November 2005. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their applications by the end of December 2005.
