二零零五年度獎學金運動員加入聯合書院大家庭 大學自二零零一年起成立「運動員獎學金計劃」，以吸引各類運動上有優異表現的年青人入讀中大，希望他們在中大優異的學習環境下盡量發揮其學術與運動潛能，為校增光。2005-2006 年度透過此計劃入聯合書院的獎學金運動員共有五名（見表）。大學特別於二零零五年十一月三十日舉行一個聚會，歡迎新一屆的運動精英。名單如下：

The College Welcomes 2005 Sports Scholarship Recipients The University set up the CUHK Sports Scholarship Scheme in 2001 to attract more young people with outstanding talent and capacity in various sports to join the CUHK family. Five scholarship recipients have joined United College this year (names listed below). A special reception was held on 30 November 2005 to welcome this group of outstanding athletes to the University.

學生宿舍消息 新春期間，本院學生宿舍將於二零零六年一月二十七日（年廿八）中午十二時起至二月一日（年初四）下午五時止暫停開放。非本地生如需於關閉期間繼續留宿，請於一月二十日前以書面通知舍監。關閉期內，宿舍將暫停服務。

Student Hostel NewsDuring the Lunar New Year holidays, the student hostels of the College will be closed from 12:00noon on 27 January 2006 to 5:00pm on 1 February 2006. Non-local students who wish to stay on during the said period must notify their respective wardens in writing before 20 January 2006. No hostel services will be provided during the said period.

聯合書院二零零六年周年研討會－「書院制與大學教育」 聯合書院二零零六年度周年研討會已定於二月廿四日（星期五）上午十時至下午一時假聯合書院鄭棟材樓C1講室舉行。 今年的研討會主題為「書院制與大學教育」。已應邀出席研討會的嘉賓講者包括中文大學博文講座教授及1996年諾貝爾經濟學獎得主莫理斯爵士，香港嶺南大學校長陳坤耀教授，美國威廉士大學副校長Professor Catharine B Hill及中文大學社會學系王淑英教授。嘉賓講者將由個人經驗及研究工作與書院師生們分享英美等地書院制度與大學教育的關係。研討會主持為香港中文大學校友評議會主席殷巧兒女士。 如有任何查詢，請致電2609 8655學生事務助理主任周鍾寶華女士或2609 7574潘家明女士。

2006 Annual Workshop of United College —“The College System in University Education” The 2006 Annual Workshop of United College will be held on Friday, 24 February 2006 from 10:00am to 1:00pm at C1 Lecture Theatre of T C Cheng Building, United College. The topic of this year's workshop is “The College System in University Education”. Confirmed speakers include Professor Sir James Mirrlees, Distinguished Professor-At-Large of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and 1996 Nobel Laureate in Economics; Professor Edward, Kwan-yiu Chen, President, Lingnan University; Professor Catharine B Hill , Provost, Williams College and Professor Suk-ying Wong, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. They will speak from their work and research experiences on the roles and functions of the college system in the UK and US. Ms Lina, Hau-Yee Yan, Chairperson of the Chinese University of Hong Kong Convocation will be the moderator of the Workshop. United College Toastmasters Club From 12 January 2006, United College Toastmasters Club meetings will be held on alternate Thursday, 6:45pm at Choi Koon Shum General Education Resources Centre, 4/F Tsang Shiu Tim Building. Toastmasters training can help students to give better presentations with English, to effectively develop and present ideas, to offer constructive criticism and to accept criticism more objectively. Besides regular meetings, United College Toastmasters Club will also participate in the Hong Kong International Speech and Table Topic Contest for the first time in the second semester. The Language Improvement Project & The Project for Promoting Bilingual Skills — Spring Programmes 2006 Applications for the Spring courses of the College's 2006 Language Improvement Project (LIP) and the Project for Promoting Bilingual Skills will open from 9 to 21 January 2006. Apart from the local Putonghua and English courses, non-local Language and Culture Programmes and language immersion camps will also be organized in summer 2006. Interested students may collect the programme booklets and application forms from the Dean of Students' Office. 書院學生交換計劃消息 韓國成均館大學校交換計劃 書院與韓國成均館大學校剛訂定合作協議，自2005-2006年度起合辦學生交換計劃，計劃並自即日起接受院內同學報名。成均館大學校位於韓國首府首爾，創校超過六百年。該校共有二十多個不同學院分佈於人文及社會科學校園及自然科學校園。部份學系包括社會工作、工程、建築及數學系被當地教育部門評定為全國第二名。 南澳洲大學交換計劃 書院與南澳洲大學的交換計劃現已開始接受申請。本年度之交換生名額為三名。本交換計劃並獲長江澳洲毅進獎學金支持，每年考慮資助一名符合資格同學前往南澳洲大學修讀，獎額為澳幣五千元。 有關以上交換計劃的詳情及申請辦法，請參閱輔導處佈告版、瀏覽書院網頁或親往輔導處查詢。截止日期為二零零六年二月六日。

News on the College Student Exchange Programmes – 2006-2007 New Exchange Programme with Sung Kyun Kwan University, Korea The College's new exchange programme with the Sung Kyun Kwan University in Korea is now open for application. The Sung Kyun Kwan University is located in Seoul. It has a very long history of more than 600 years. The University has 11 schools in the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus and 13 schools in the Natural Sciences Campus. The Departments of Social Welfare, Mathematics, Architecture and Engineering were ranked as the 2nd in the respective fields by the Korea Council for University Education in 2002. Exchange Programme with University of South Australia, Australia The College exchange programme with the University of South Australia is also open for application. There are 3 exchange places for 2006-2007. Selected candidates may be eligible for consideration of the Cheung Kong Undergraduate Scholarship of AUD$5,000 for the exchange studies in Australia. The deadline for application is 6 February 2006.

書院創意學生活動獎勵計劃接受申請 書院為鼓勵同學籌辦具創意的活動，特設「創意學生活動獎」供本院同學或學生團體申請。計劃目的在於鼓勵學生或學生團體籌辦優質活動、提高學生及學生組織的積極性、及推動學生積極投入校園生活。 是項計劃現正接受申請。歡迎聯合書院學生會認可的學生團體或本院同學以個人或小組名義申請。申請表格及計劃書可於二零零六年三月十八日(星期六)或以前向書院輔導處遞交。 得獎人或單位將獲得不超過港幣兩萬元的資助，作為籌辦該項活動的經費。開支實報實銷。得獎個人或團體須向書院呈交活動及財政報告。 本計劃由聯合書院鄭棟材博士紀念基金資助。申請表格可於書院輔導處索取或於書院網頁下載，查詢請電2609 7570 與書院學生輔導處林偉源先生或何惠芬女士聯絡。

Creative Student Activity Award Programme Now Opens for Application To encourage students to organize new or creative activities, the College has established the Creative Student Activity Award Programme since 2002. The aims of the programmes are: 1) encouraging students or student bodies to organize quality activities; 2) encouraging students / student bodies to be more active in organizing activities; and 3) promoting students' participation in College life. The Programme for 2006 is now open for application. Students of United College or student organizations registered with the United College Student Union are eligible to apply. Interested parties should submit the applications and activity proposals to the Dean of Students' Office on or before 18 March 2006. The winning students or organization(s) will be awarded up to HK$20,000 of subsidy for organizing the programme. A detailed activity and financial reports must be submitted to the College upon completion of the programme. This award programme is funded by the United College T C Cheng Memorial Fund.
