書院粵辯奪第四屆「明辯盃」

「明辯盃」是聯合書院與城市大學的粵語辯論隊於二零零二年創辦的辯論友誼比賽，首年在聯合書院舉行，之後輪流在兩院校作賽。第四屆「明辯盃」於五月廿六日在城大LT04講室舉行，辯題是「港府應推行活家禽中央屠宰」，正方為聯合書院，而城市大學則任反方。當天賽果為二比一，聯合書院勝城大，結辯江祖揚同學更獲得「最佳辯員」的名銜。書院謹向辯論隊全體成員致以熱烈祝賀。

　

College Debate Team won 4th Ming Ben Cup

The "Ming Ben Cup" was established by the Cantonese debate teams of United College and the City University in 2002.  With the first Cup match held on the United College Campus, the two teams will take turns in holding the matches thereafter. The 4th Ming Ben Cup was held on 26 May 2006 at LT04 of the City University, and the College's debate team won the match by 2 to 1, and Mr Lance Kong was awarded the Best Debater of the match. Our heartily congratulations to all members of the Debate Team!

　

書院划艇隊奪第二屆中大划艇錦標賽團體總冠軍

書院划艇隊於四月九日參加於石門舉行的第二屆中大划艇錦標賽，男女隊員奮力作賽，更得到書院校董會副主席、基金會副主席暨校友會會長張煊昌博士出席打氣，發揮團結及合作精神，結果勇奪團體總冠軍。書院謹向書院體育部及划艇隊致以衷心祝賀!

　

Rowing Team won Overall Group Champion in 2nd CUHK Rowing Championships

　

The College Rowing Team participated in the 2nd The Chinese University of Hong Kong Rowing Championships held at Shek Mun on 9 April 2006. With team spirit uplifted among male and female members and the support of Dr Thomas H C Cheung, Vice-chairman of the College Board of Trustees, Chairman of Endowment Fund Committee and President of the Alumni Association, by his physical appearance, the team won the overall group champion.Heartfelt congratulations to the College Physical Education Unit and the Rowing Team!

　

語文改善計劃消息-暑期外地語文及文化計劃

本年度之暑期外地語文及文化計劃的報名情況非常踴躍。經過一輪面試後，書院經已選拔出四十七位同學，獲得書院資助參加與英國蘇格蘭愛丁堡及中國清華大學協辦暑期語文及文化課程。獲選同學名單詳見附件一。

This year's Summer Non-local Language and Culture Programmes have received enthusiastic support from students. A total of 47 students were selected to participate in the summer programmes co-organized by University of Edinburgh in the UK and Tsinghua University in the PRC. 港、中、美三地萌芽學者學術交流計劃

 

聯合書院與美國密蘇里大學聖路易斯分校及浙江大學於本年度合辦港、中、美三地萌芽學者學術交流計劃以慶祝聯合書院五十周年紀念。一行九人的聯合書院萌芽學者學術交流計劃團於學術顧問生物系朱利民教授及地理與資源管理學系林暉教授率領下，於二零零六年五月二十七日至六月五日出訪美國密蘇里大學。來自浙江大學一行十一人的交流團亦一同訪問美國密蘇里大學，進行三地學術交流。聯合書院的萌芽學者們並以「Sustainable Development and Pollution Control in the Pearl River Delta Region」為題，於當地進行專題報告。

　

Hong Kong-PRC-USA Budding Scholars Exchange Programme

　

The College Budding Scholars delegation, accompanied by the academic advisers Professor Chu Lee Man (Department of Biology) and Professor Lin Hui (Department of Geography & Resource Management) visited the University of Missouri – St Louis (UMSL) from 27 May – 5 June 2006 for ten days.  The delegation from the Zhejiang University, PRC also visited UMSL during this period to form the first part of the Hong Kong-PRC-USA Budding Scholars Exchange Programme in celebrating the College 50th Anniversary. The United College students conducted a seminar at UMSL on the topic of "Sustainable development and pollution control in the Pearl River Delta Region".

　

海外及研究獎學金頒獎茶聚

 

本年度書院海外及研究獎學金頒獎茶聚已於二零零六年六月二十九日在思源文娛中心舉行。當日出席的嘉賓包括捐獎人、書院獎學金及學生資助委員會委員、獲獎同學家長及書院同人等。

　

Tea-gathering with Overseas and Postgraduate Scholarship Recipients

　

A tea-gathering for this year's overseas and postgraduate scholarship recipients was held on 29 June 2006 at the Si Yuan Amenities Centre. Donors, members of the Scholarships and Student Finance Committee, scholarship recipients and their parents were present.

　

語文自學中心證書頒授典禮

 

語文自學中心於五月十八日於胡忠多媒體圖書館舉行第一屆「普通話實用證書」及「語文自學證書」頒授典禮。

 

文學院院長羅炳良教授出席頒發「普通話實用證書」予十八位考試合格的同學；英語教學單位主任麥禮義博士頒授「語文自學證書」予二十四位同學。其他出席嘉賓包括聯合書院院長馮國培教授、大學圖書館館長施達理博士、副館長黃潘明珠女士、大學圖書館技術服務部主管劉麗芝女士、新雅中國語文研習所主任吳偉平博士、藝術行政主任蔡錫昌先生、中文系周建渝教授、聯合胡忠多媒體圖書館分館主任繆慧儀女士和聯合書院院務主任李雷寶玲女士。

 

語文自學中心主任李潔連博士鼓勵同學善用餘暇，多參加中心的活動，利用中心的書籍及多媒體資源，提高個人的中英雙語水平。她深信「完成正規課程，學生可以有一技之長謀生；而持續教育，則可使他們一生富有。」

Independent Learning Centre's Award Presentation Ceremony

 

The Independent Learning Centre (ILC) held its first Award Presentation Ceremony on 18 May 2006 in Wu Chung Multimedia Library.

　

Professor Daniel Law, Dean of Faculty of Arts, conferred the Practical Putonghua certificates to 18 students and Dr. Arthur McNeill, Director of English Language Teaching Unit, gave the Independent Learning certificates to 24 students. Other guests of honours included Professor Fung Kwok Pui, Head of United College, Dr Colin Storey, University Librarian, Mrs Rita Wong, Deputy Librarian, Professor Zhou Jianyu, Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Ms Sandra Mow, Assistant Librarian and Mrs Christina Li, College Secretary of United College.

　

Dr Pauline Lee, the Director of ILC, encouraged students to sign up for workshops and to make full use of the print and non-print resources in the ILC to enhance their Chinese and English proficiency. It is her belief that "formal education will help students make a living; but self education will help them make a fortune".

聯合學生獲海外大學頒發全費獎學金

 

本院工商管理系二年級李文俊同學獲史丹福大學及柏克萊加州大學頒獎全費獎學金。本院數學系二零零四年畢業生、現任中大哲學碩士生陳鍵行校友則獲伊利諾大學芝加哥分校頒獎全費學金。

　

United College Students awarded Full Scholarships from Overseas Universities

 

Mr Lee Man Chun, a second-year Business Administration student of United College was awarded full scholarship from Stanford University and University of California, Berkeley, while Mr Chan Kin Hang, 2004 UC graduate from Department of Mathematics and PhD student in CUHK, was awarded full scholarship from University of lllinois at Chicago.
