晉升

本院下列同仁榮獲各項升任：

*  黃聿教授晉升為生理學系教授(1)，由二零零六年八月一日生效。

*  陳基湘教授晉升為微生物學系教授(1)，由二零零六年八月一日生效。

*  馮沛璋博士晉升為系統工程與工程管理學系一級導師，由二零零六年八月九日生效。

Advancements

The following colleagues of the College have been advanced/promoted:

*    Prof Huang Yu from Dept. of Physiology has been promoted as Professor 1 with effective from 1 August 2006.   

*    Prof Chan Kay Sheung Paul from Dept. of Microbiology has been promoted as Professor 1 with effective from 1 August 2006.

*    Dr Fung Pui Cheong, Gabriel from Dept. of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management has been upgraded as Instructor 1 with effective from 9 August 2006.

二零零六至二零零七年度學生校園培訓及服務獎勵計劃  (第二輪撥款申請)

為協助同學獲得實際工作及研究經驗，書院設有一項學生校園培訓及服務獎勵計劃，鼓勵教職員任用同學作學生助手。學生助手目前的獎勵金額為每小時港幣五十元，服務範圍甚廣並遍及各系及行政部門。

二零零六至二零零七年度學生校園培訓及服務獎勵計劃第二輪撥款現正接受申請。學生輔導處將於十一月十三日寄發申請資料予本院教職員。如有查詢，請致電學生輔導處彭詠芯女士2609 7562或陳鄧翠怡女士2609 8657。截止申請日期為十一月二十五日，書院將於二零零六年十二月底前通知各申請人有關結果。

Student Campus Training And Service Award Scheme for 2006/2007 (2^nd Allocation Exercise)

The United College Student Campus Training and Service Award Scheme is set up to help students to gain work and research experience. Under the Scheme, students are engaged as helpers to serve at various academic and administrative departments and units. At present, the hourly award rate is HK$50. Interested students can apply as student helpers at the College Dean of Students' Office. 

Applications are now invited for the second-round allocation of the UC Student Campus Training and Service Award Scheme for 2006/2007. Application materials will be dispatched to College members on 13 November 2006.  For further information please contact Ms Sam Pang (Tel : 2609 7562) or Mrs Eastre Chan (Tel : 2609 8657) of the Dean of Students' Office.  Completed application forms should be submitted by 25 November 2006.  Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their applications by the end of December 2006.

「新穎功能分子在材料學上的應用」專題研討會

在崇基、新亞及聯合書院的贊助下，理學院的「新穎功能分子研究所」已於十月廿三日在聯合書院文怡閣舉行了一個名為「新穎功能分子在材料學上的應用」的專題研討會。是次會議邀請了七位國際知名學者 —

Professor Akira Fijishima、Professor Joel Miller、任詠華教授、鮑信和教授、俞書宏教授、余濟美教授及朱鵬年教授 — 報導了他們的尖端研究成果。會議題目包括光催化、分子磁體、發光材料及新穎的無機及生物材料等各方面的進展。該研究所主任的周克勳教授及理學院院長關海山教授分別於會議開幕禮致詞，會議出席人數超過一百多人。

Workshop on Novel Functional Molecules

Under the aegis of the Chung Chi, New Asia and United Colleges, the Center of Novel Functional Molecules (CNFM) has organized a one-day workshop on novel functional molecules for materials application on 23 October 2006 at UC Staff Common Room. Seven renowned researchers made presentation, including Professor Akira Fujishima (Kanagawa Academy of Science and Technology, Japan); Professor Joel Miller (University of Utah, USA); Professor Vivian Ya (HKU);

Professor Xinhe Bao (Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Science, China); Professor Jimmy Yu (CUHK); Professor Shuhong Yu (University of Science and Technology of China); and Professor Benjamin Chu (State University of New York at Stony Brook, USA).  The seven lectures covered the cutting-edge research fields such as photocatalysis, molecular magnets, light-emitting materials, and novel inorganic and biomaterials. Professor Hak-Fun Chow (Director of CNFM) and Professor Hoi-Shan Kwan (Dean of Faculty of Science) gave the opening remarks and there were more than a hundred participants in this event.

健康系列

為促進聯合書院同事的健康，聯合書院健康促進小組與大學保健處合作籌備了一連串的健康系統活動，供聯合同事一同參與。健康系列是聯合書院五十周年金禧的慶祝活動之一。

書院於二零零六年九月初舉辦一項名為健康系列–預防性健康檢查推廣計劃，聯絡健康檢查的承辦商提供特價的健康檢查組合，作為聯合書院員工的福利。合共五十四位聯合書院教職員及配偶參加本計劃。為使同事更方便使用服務，承辦商更前來聯合書院為同事收取化驗樣本。書院更以先到先得的方式贊助港幣一百元予聯合書院同事作驗身，以鼓勵同事採取主動，作預防性的健康檢查。

另書院健康促進小組亦於二零零六年九月二十二日文怡閣舉行書院午餐講座–健康系列第一講，主講嘉賓大學保健處處長方玉輝醫生與同事分享「驗身知多少?」。

Health Series

To promote and protect the health of our staff, the College Task Force on Health Promotion, in collaboration with University Health Service, has organized a series of Health Series activities for staff. The Health Series is one of the major programmes in celebrating the College 50^th Anniversary.

The College has launched a Preventive Health Check-up Incentive Scheme for all United College staff and spouses. Altogether 54 United College staff and their spouses joined this discounted health check-up packages. The vendor also provided on-campus specimen collection so as to provide convenience to our staff. The College provided a sponsorship of $100 for all United College staff who pre-registered for this service on first-come-first-served basis as an incentive for the preventive health check-up.

To enhance staff's knowledge on the importance of health screening, the Task Force also organized a luncheon talk on 22 September 2006 at UC Staff Common Room. The guest speaker, Dr Ben Fong, Director of University Health Service, shared with staff on the topic of "Health Screening".

聯合書院教職員聯誼會及書院環境委員會將於二零零六年十一月二十五日(星期六) 下午一時至六時合辦「有機認證農場一天遊」，行程包括雲泉仙館素菜午膳及參觀粉嶺坪輋「珍記」有機認證農場。免費報名 (不包括午餐費用)，來往中大專車及抽獎由聯合書院教職員聯誼會贊助。報名及查詢請致電林煒婷小姐2696 1750。

1) Staff Association Annual General Meeting 2006

Staff Association AGM was held on 13 October 2006 at the College Staff Common Room. The AGM accepted the Annual Report and Audited Accounts of the Association presented by the 2005/2006 Executive Committee and elected the following office-bearers to form the 2006/2007 Executive Committee:

2) Membership Fees

2006-2007 membership fee for the United College Staff Association will be deducted from members' November 2006 salary. 4) Organic Farm Day Trip

A day trip visiting local organic farm will be co-organized by the United College Staff Association and the College Environment Committee on 25 November 2006 (Saturday), from 1:00pm to 6:00pm. Itinerary includes vegetarian lunch at Wun Cheun Sin Koon and visit to the Chun Kee Organic Farm in Ping Che, Fanling.
