Appointment of Acting Dean

Professor Alaster Lau, Dean of Students will be on leave from 15 December 2006 to 1 January 2007. Professor Chau Kwai Cheong, Department of Geography and Resource Management, will be the Acting Dean of Students during the above period.

香港中文大學聯合書院金禧院慶話劇

聯合書院金禧院慶話劇將於二零零七年一月六日晚上八時於沙田大會堂演奏廳公演，劇名為「水塔下的五星戰隊」。此劇為聯合人對母校的集體回憶及金禧獻禮。在跨越時空的舞台，將聯合書院五十年來的大小故事，以亦虛亦實的手法串連，細意刻劃出不同年代聯合人的理想與感情。件件往事，點點濃情，書院精神躍然而出，不同年代的聯合人，都能有所共鳴。

Golden Jubilee Anniversary Drama

The United College Golden Jubilee Anniversary Drama entitled “In Search of the V Forces” (in Cantonese) will be staged on Saturday, 6 January 2007 at 8:00pm at the Auditorium, Sha Tin Town Hall. This drama is a collective memory of United College members presented for celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the College. The characters are lively and charming, reflecting the historical development and demonstrating our College spirits which is so deeply valued. Interesting stories of different generations reappear on stage, and the audience would be just like taking a seat in the time machine, shuttling between the past and the present.

港、中、美三地萌芽學者學術交流計劃

為慶祝聯合書院五十周年金禧院慶，書院與美國密蘇里大學(聖路易斯分校)及浙江大學合辦港、中、美三地萌芽學者學術交流計劃。來自美國密蘇里大學(聖路易斯分校)及浙江大學萌芽學者團將於二零零七年一月三日至十一日一同到訪書院作三地交流，兩院校的同學代表將於訪問期間主持專題研討會，發表論文報告。詳情如下：

Hong Kong-PRC-USA Budding Scholars Exchange Programme

In celebration of the College’s 50th Anniversary, United College, University of Missouri-St. Louis and Zhejiang University jointly organized a Hong Kong-PRC-USA Budding Scholars Exchange Programme. Budding Scholar delegations from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Zhejiang University will visit United College from 3 to 11 January 2007. The student representatives from the University of Missouri and Zhejiang University will conduct 2 seminars on 9 and 10 January 2007. The details are as below:

「今日中國木版畫展」及「中國現代木刻畫藏品展」

為慶祝聯合書院五十周年院與及崇基學院五十五周年校慶，兩院合辦「今日中國木版畫展」，在二零零六年十月十九日至十一月十七日於崇基學院行政樓展覽廳展出多位當代中國木版畫名家的作品。

展出籌劃者利漢楨先生、展出顧問梅創基先生、崇基學院院長梁元生教授、崇基學院五十五周年院慶籌委會主席梁怡教授及聯合書院馮國培院長於十月十九日崇基學院行政樓展覽廳主持畫展開幕剪綵儀式。

此外，聯合書院在於二零零六年十月十七日至二十一日於邵逸夫堂留足展覽廳舉辦「中國現代木刻畫藏品展」。

Exhibitions of “Chinese Woodblock Prints Today” & “Collection of Modern Chinese Woodblock Prints”

In celebration of the 50th and 55th Anniversary respectively for United College and Chung Chi College, the two colleges jointly organized an exhibition on “Chinese Woodblock Prints Today”. There was an exposition of woodblock prints of contemporary Chinese artists from 19 October to 17 November 2006 at Chung Chi College Administrative Building Exhibition Gallery.

College conducted the ribbon cutting ceremony on 19 October 2006 at Chung Chi College Administrative Building Exhibition Gallery.

Also, an exhibition of “Collection of Modern Chinese Woodblock Prints” was held by United College from 17 to 21 October 2006 at the foyer Gallery, Sir Run Run Shaw Hall.

聯合書院金禧院慶音樂會

聯合書院金禧院慶音樂會已於二零零六年十一月十八日晚上八時假沙田大會堂演奏廳完滿舉行。開幕儀式由院長馮國培教授致歡迎辭，及由主禮嘉賓聯合書院校董會暨五十周年校慶活動指導委員會主席岑才生先生致送紀念品予表演嘉賓。

音樂會當晚演出陣容鼎盛，表演者包括﹕香港中文大學晨興書院候任院長、中文大學博文講座教授暨一九九六年諾貝爾經濟學獎得主莫理斯爵士、日本研究學系水戶考道教授、聯合書院校友何永泰先生、聯合書院伍慶賢同學、梅朗心同學和徐永業同學、聯合書院金禧合唱團、香港中文大學音樂系中樂合奏小組、香港中文大學崇基管弦樂團及崇基學院合唱團等。

蒙多位校董、校友、各界嘉賓、大學及書院同仁蒞臨當晚酒會及金禧院慶音樂會，當晚全場滿座，逾一千三百名師生和觀眾入場欣賞當晚精彩的節目，共賀金禧。音樂會尾聲由合共二百多人之聯合書院金禧合唱團、香港中文大學崇基管弦樂團及崇基學院合唱團演出聯合書院校歌作結，並由書院代表上台領唱，全體觀眾一同合唱聯合書院校歌，場面十分熱鬧感人。音樂會照片可瀏覽書院五十周年網頁：http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/uc/uc50。

United College Golden Jubilee Anniversary Concert

The United College Golden Jubilee Anniversary Concert was held on 18 November 2006, 8:00pm at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall. The opening ceremony was officiated by Professor Fung Kwok Pui, Head of United College and Mr Shum Choi Sang, Chairman of Board of Trustees and Steering Committee on 50th Anniversary Celebration of United College.

Our honorable performers included Professor Sir James Mirrlees, the Master-Designate of the Morningside College, Distinguished Professor-At-Large of the CUHK, 1996 Nobel Laureate in Economics; Professor Takamichi Mito, Department of Japanese Studies; Mr Allan Ho, United

College alumnus; Mr William Thaddeus Ng, Miss Tabitha Mui and Mr Francis Tsui, United College students; United College Golden Jubilee Choir; CUHK Music Department Chinese Music Ensemble; CUHK Chung Chi Orchestra and Chung Chi College Choir.

The concert played to a full house with over 1300 audience, including trustees, alumni, university/college staff and friends of the College attending the Concert and sharing the joy of the occasion. The Concert was happily concluded by the congregational signing of United College Song jointly performed by the College representatives, the choirs and orchestra with over 200 members.
