金禧院慶周年研討會
　

聯合書院金禧院慶周年研討會已訂於三月二日（星期五）上午十時至下午一時假聯合書院鄭棟材樓C1講室舉行。今年的研討會主題為「思考50–香港的政治學研究與政治人才的培養」。書院已邀得時事評論員李鵬飛先生，香港特別行政區立法會議員、民建聯主席馬力先生及前立法局主席黃宏發先生一同擔任主講嘉賓，與師生分享對香港的政治學研究與政治人才的培養的見解與經驗。香港中文大學政治與行政學系講師、聯合書院導師黃鉅鴻先生將擔任研討會的主持。

Golden Jubilee Annual Workshop
　

The Golden Jubilee Annual Workshop of United College will be held on Friday, 2 March 2007 from 10:00am to 1:00pm at C1 Lecture Theatre of T C Cheng Building, United College. The topic of this year’s workshop is “A 50-year Reflection: Teaching and Research of Political
Sciences in Hong Kong”. Mr Allen Lee Peng Fei, Commentator on Current Affairs; Mr Ma Lik, Member of the Legislative Council, HKSAR and Chairman of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong and Mr Andrew Wong Wang Fat, Former
President of the Legislative Council, Hong Kong will speak on the topic from their work and research experiences. Mr Jeremiah Wong Kui Hung, Lecturer of the Department of Government and Public Administration and the College Tutor, The Chinese University of Hong Kong will be the moderator of the Workshop.

二零零六至零七年度「到訪傑出學人」
袁隆平教授

香港中文大學聯合書院金禧年度第二位「到訪傑出學人」為中國國家雜交水稻工程技術研究中心主任袁隆平教授，將於三月十日至十八日到訪香港。

有「雜交水稻之父」之稱的袁隆平教授於一九三零年在北京出生，一九五三年畢業於西南農學院，隨即投身農學研究及教育事業。袁教授從六十年代開始利用雜交技術提高水稻產量，成就裴然。基於他對世界糧食生產與農業科學發展的巨大貢獻，袁教授贏取了無數的獎項，其中包括世界知識產權組織的「創造與發明獎章」金獎、聯合國教科文組織的「科學獎」、日本的「日經亞洲大獎」、中國首次頒發的「國家最高科學技術獎」、世界糧食基金會的「世界糧食獎」等。袁隆平教授現為中國工程院院士及美國科學院外籍院士。

袁隆平教授是次訪問期間將主持一次公開講座，講題及詳情如下：

2006-07 Distinguished Visiting Scholar – Professor Yuan Longping

Professor Yuan Longping, Director-General of the China National Hybrid Rice Research and Development Center, will visit United College between 10 and 18 March 2007 as the second Distinguished Visiting Scholar in the College’s 50th Anniversary Year.
　

The “Father of Hybrid Rice”, Professor Yuan Longping, was born in Beijing in 1930.  He graduated from Southwest Agriculture College, China in 1953 and has since devoted himself to agricultural education and research.  Professor Yuan has been a pioneer in hybrid rice research and is the first scientist who successfully altered the self-pollinating characteristic of rice and made large-scale farming of hybrid rice possible.  His pioneering work in hybrid rice breeding and production techniques has revolutionized rice cultivation in China.  Professor Yuan's remarkable
achievement in hybrid rice research won him numerous awards and honors from the United Nations and worldwide.  Among his many awards are Science Prize of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Gold Medal Award for the Outstanding Inventor of the United Nations World Intellectual Property Organization, Fukui International Koshihikari Rice Prize of Japan, the first State Supreme Science and Technology Award by the Chinese Government, and the World Food Prize to recognize his contributions to hybrid rice research.

香江文教發展五十年

由康樂及文化事務署與香港中文大學聯合書院合辦的「香江文教發展五十年」專題展覽將於二零零七年三月七日至五月廿八日於香港歷史博物館一樓大堂舉行，免費入場。

教育與文化，息息相關。二次大戰結束後，香港百廢待舉，教育事業面臨重重困難，政府遂積極發展教育，各式教育百花齊放，中文教育更有新的發展。 1956年，廣僑、光夏、華僑、文化及平正五所私立書院合併組成聯合書院。至1963年香港中文大學正式成立，聯合書院成為創校成員之一。此後大專院校不斷出現，令更多學生有深造研究的機會。與此同事，香港是各地文化的大鎔爐，由早年的西方及日本文化，到近年的韓國文化傳入，確實帶來深遠影響。隨著科技的進步及生活水平的提高，人們對社會文化有更多訴求，促成香港文化的內涵日益發展。

是次展覽透過一批 1956 至 2006 年具代表性的展品及照片，輔以精簡文字，展示半世紀以來香港文化與教育發展的進程，並探討聯合書院與香港社會的相互關係。

Fifty Years of Cultural and Educational Development in Hong Kong

Jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and United College of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the exhibition titled “Fifty Years of Cultural and Educational Development in Hong Kong will be held from 7 March 2007 to 28 May 2007 at the Hong Kong

Museum of History 1/F Lobby. Free Admission to public.

There is a close relationship between education and culture. After World War II, the Hong Kong Government was confronted with severe difficulties in developing education, so she took an active part in promoting education. The mode of education diversified and the

development of Chinese education was emphasized. In 1956, United College was founded by the amalgamation of five private colleges, Canton Overseas, Kwang Hsia, Wah Kiu, Wen Hua and Ping Jing. In 1963, The Chinese University of Hong Kong was inaugurated with United

College as one of the three foundation colleges. More and more tertiary institutions were formed, and students were given more opportunities for further studies. Meanwhile, Hong Kong is a mixture of different cultures, fully affected by Western and Japanese cultures in the early time, and Korean culture in the recent years. With the development of scientific technology and the improvement of living standards, Hong Kong people have more demands in the social culture, enhancing the growth of the local culture.

Through representative illustrations, photos and lucid descriptions, this exhibition outlines the cultural and educational development in Hong Kong during the past 50 years from 1956 to 2006, and examines the interrelationships between the United College and the local society.

明德新民：聯合書院先賢書畫展

由香港中文大學聯合書院、文物館及大學圖書館系統主辦的「明德新民：聯合書院先賢書畫展」將於二零零七年三月五日至四月十三日於大學圖書館展覽廰，及四月十七日至五月廿七日於胡忠多媒體圖書館舉行。

聯合書院名師輩出，在國學及藝術方面成就超卓。是次展覽包括多位聯合書院先賢之書畫墨寶，如蔣法賢、鄭棟材、伍憲子、呂燦銘、錢穆、李研山、鄭水心、馮康侯、熊潤桐、李撫虹、陳荊鴻、王淑陶、司徒奇、姚克、梁簡能、高明、李棪、王德昭、羅時憲、陳湛銓和蘇文擢等，實在不容錯過。

Enlightening Virtues, Renewing Man:

An Exhibition of Paintings and Calligraphy by Distinguished Scholars of United College

The exhibition titled “Enlightening Virtues, Renewing Man: An Exhibition of Paintings and Calligraphy by Distinguished Scholars of United College”, co-organized by United College, Art Museum and University Library System of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, will be held from 5 March 2007 to 13 April 2007 at the University Library Exhibition Gallery, and from 17 April to 27 May 2007 at Wu Chung Multimedia Library.

This exhibition presents the Chinese paintings, calligraphy and publications by distinguished scholars of United College over the past half-a-century. The scholars include Jiang Faxian, Zheng Dongcai, Wu Xianzi, Lu Canming, Qian Mu, Li Yanshan, Zheng Shuixin, Fung Hong Hou, Xiong Runtong, Li Fuhong, Chen Jinghong, Wang Shutao, Situ Qi, Yao Ke, Liang Jianneng, Gao Ming, Li Yan, Wang Dezhao, Luo Shixian, Chan Cham Chuen and Su Wenzhuo etc.

金禧院慶話劇

聯合書院金禧院慶話劇《水塔下的五星戰隊》已於二零零七年一月六日(星期六)晚上八時假沙田大會堂演奏廳公演。開幕儀式由書院校董會副主席、五十周年校慶活動指導委員會副主席、書院基金會主席兼校友會會長張煊昌博士、金禧院慶話劇籌委會主席兼監製殷巧兒女士、馮國培院長及金禧院慶話劇籌委會主要成員主持。馮國培院長致歡迎辭後與張煊昌博士分別致送紀念品予各話劇協助單位。殷巧兒女士亦於謝辭中感謝所有台前幕後及提供指導和意見的人士及單位。

金禧話劇蒙各界支持，出席嘉賓包括劉遵義校長、大學及書院校董和院長、大學部門主管、校友、學生和教職員等，場面熱鬧。《水塔下的五星戰隊》一劇講述在聯合書院的迎新營內，有五個特別的人，他們都是身負重任的「五星戰隊」成員，要在迎新活動結束之前，找到其他四位隊員。故事發展下去，觀眾發現「五星戰隊」背後隱藏著一個更重大的事件，就是聯合書院成立的原因和精神。故事以亦虛亦實的手法，將五十年來書院的重大事故串連，並突顯出聯合書院的精神所在。

Golden Jubilee Anniversary Drama

The United College Golden Jubilee Anniversary Drama “In Search of the V Forces” was held on Saturday, 6 January 2007 at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall at 8:00 pm.  Prior to the show, an opening ceremony was officiated by Dr Thomas H C Cheung, Vice Chairman of the College Board of Trustees and Steering Committee on 50th Anniversary Celebration, Chairman of the College Endowment Fund Committee and President of the College Alumni Association, Ms Lina Yan, Chairlady of the Golden Jubilee Anniversary Drama Organizing Committee and
Executive Producer of the Drama, Professor K P Fung, College Head, and key members of the Golden Jubilee Anniversary Drama Organizing Committee.  After the welcoming speech of Professor K P Fung, the College Head joined hands with Dr. Thomas H C Cheung to present souvenirs to various supporting bodies of the drama.  Ms Lina Yan expressed deepest thanks to all participants, performers and helpers of the drama.

The drama was graced by the honorable guests,including Professor Lawrence J Lau, University Vice-Chancellor, University and College trustees and heads, directors and heads of various university departments and units, alumni, staff and students.  The drama talked about five special persons, who needed to find their team members in the College orientation camp.  As the story went on, audiences discovered that behind the searching of teammates, a big incident happened fifty years ago being revealed …, the establishment of United College.  The drama lined up meaningful events in the past fifty years that highlighted the College spirits.

港、中、美三地萌芽學者學術交流計劃
　

為慶祝聯合書院五十周年金禧院慶，書院與美國密蘇里大學(聖路易斯分校)及浙江大學合辦港、中、美三地萌芽學者學術交流計劃。來自美國密蘇里大學(聖路易斯分校)及浙江大學萌芽學者團於二零零七年一月三日至十一日一同到訪書院作三地交流，兩院校的同學代表並分別以(i) Advancing Renewable Energy: An Investigation for a Lifetime 及 (ii) Endangered Animals and Plants and Environmental Protection為題於訪問期間主持專題研討會，發表論文報告。此外，訪問團亦到訪不同的機構及政府部門如立法會、環境保護署、香港濕地公園及香港文化博物館。

聯合書院萌芽學者學術交流團已於去年六月，由學術顧問生物系朱利民教授及地理資源管理學系林琿教授率領，出訪密蘇里大學，並將於本年五月底至六月初再訪問浙江大學。

Hong Kong-PRC-USA Budding Scholars Exchange Programme

In celebration of the College’s 50th Anniversary, United College, University of Missouri-St. Louis and Zhejiang University jointly organized a Hong Kong-PRC-USA Budding Scholars Exchange Programme. Budding Scholar delegations from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Zhejiang University visited United College from 3 to 11 January 2007. The student representatives from the University of Missouri and Zhejiang University conducted 2 seminars on the topic of (i) Advancing Renewable Energy: An Investigation for a Lifetime and (ii) Endangered Animals and Plants and Environmental Protection. Apart from conducting academic seminars, the delegates were also arranged to visit local government offices and organizations such as the Legislative Council, Environmental Protection Department, Hong Kong Wetland Park and Hong Kong Heritage Museum etc.
