二零零六至零七年度「到訪傑出學人」- 袁隆平院士

 香港中文大學聯合書院金禧年度第二位「到訪傑出學人」為中國國家雜交水稻工程技術研究中心主任袁隆平院士，他將於三月十日至十八日到訪香港。

 有「雜交水稻之父」稱號的袁隆平院士於一九三零年在北京出生，一九五三年畢業於西南農學院，隨即投身農學研究及教育事業。袁院士從六十年代開始利用雜交技術提高水稻產量，成果裴然。基於他對世界糧食生產與農業科學發展的巨大貢獻，袁院士贏取了無數的獎項，其中包括世界知識產權組織的「創造與發明獎章」金獎、聯合國教科文組織的「科學獎」、日本的「日經亞洲大獎」、中國首次頒發的「國家最高科學技術獎」、世界糧食基金會的「世界糧食獎」等。袁隆平院士現為中國工程院院士及美國科學院外籍院士。

袁隆平院士是次訪問期間將主持一次公開講座，講題及詳情如下：

2006-07 Distinguished Visiting Scholar – Professor Yuan Longping

Professor Yuan Longping, Director-General of the China National Hybrid Rice Research and Development Centre, will visit United College between 10 and 18 March 2007 as the second Distinguished Visiting Scholar in the College’s 50th Anniversary Year.

The “Father of Hybrid Rice”, Professor Yuan Longping, was born in Beijing in 1930.  He graduated from Southwest Agriculture College, China in 1953 and has since devoted himself to agricultural education and research.  Professor Yuan was a pioneer in hybrid rice research and is the first scientist who successfully altered the self-pollinating characteristic of rice and made large-scale farming of hybrid rice possible.  His pioneering work in hybrid rice breeding and production techniques has revolutionized rice cultivation in China.  Professor Yuan's remarkable achievement in hybrid rice research won him numerous awards and honors from the United Nations and

worldwide.  Among his many awards are Science Prize of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Gold Medal Award for the Outstanding Inventor of the United Nations World Intellectual Property Organization, Fukui International Koshihikari Rice Prize of Japan, the first State Supreme Science and Technology Award by the Chinese Government, and the World Food Prize to recognize his contributions to hybrid rice research.

文化藝術活動

為慶祝書院成立五十周年紀念，並提高校園的文藝氣氛，書院特別舉辦一連串的文化藝術活動，令書院師生及校友有機會了解及欣賞不同種類和形式的藝術。

一) 「駐院作家」倪匡先生

書院邀得聯合書院校友著名作家倪匡先生於三月及四月蒞臨聯合書院擔任「駐院作家」。倪匡先生為中文大學聯合書院校友，出生於一九三五年上海，浙江寧波人。一九五七年到香港，作過工人、校對、編輯，自學成才，成為專業作家。他寫作面十分廣闊，眾體皆備，小說則包括偵探、科幻、神怪、武俠、言情各種。他自稱是世界寫漢字最多的人，因為他自一九五七年由內地來港後，寫了三十年，一個星期寫足七天，每天寫數萬字．最令人稱奇的，是他可以寫三十年而靈感不斷，題材不盡，且是暢銷的保證。

本院將會舉行一系列的座談會讓倪匡先生與大家分享他的寫作和人生，講題及詳情如下：

二) 利漢楨先生夜話：旅美藝術生涯大半生 —　雕塑． 個人．師友

書院邀得著名藝術家利漢楨先生再次蒞臨聯合書院。利漢楨先生出生於香港並在此接受早期教育，後負笈美國大學，一九六七年完成藝術碩士學位。旋即開始教授雕塑、版畫大學課程，歷二十年，其間亦參與無數展出，國際性藝術研討、活動，聚會良多。又兼職大學畫廊主任十一年，籌辦各種小型、大型展出。他的作品題材以人與大自然及人與環境為主。

利漢楨先生夜話將於二零零七年三月二十九日 (星期二) 晚上六時至八時書院鄭棟材樓思源文娛中心舉行，講題為「旅美藝術生涯大半生 — 雕塑．個人．師友」。

Art and Cultural Activities of United College

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of United College, a series of art and cultural programmes will be organized so as to arouse the interest of art appreciation among students and staff. 

1)　United College On-campus Writer - Mr Ngai Hong

The College has specially invited an alumnus of United College and renowned writer, Mr Ngai Hong to be the United College on-campus writer in March and April. Ngai Hong, an alumnus of UC, born in 1935 in Shanghai, with Ning Po, Zhejing as place of origin, moved to Hong Kong in 1957. With working experience as worker, proof-reader and editor, he has become a professional writer through private study. He is a writer of different genres, and is famous for science, mysterious and gong-fu fictions. He claimed himself as the most productive Chinese writer in the world. Since he came to Hong Kong in 1957, he has pursued writing for thirty years. He writes seven days every week, and thousands of words every day. The most wonderful thing is that he continued to have new ideas and topics for writing. Moreover, his work is the guarantee of best seller.

The College will hold a series of night talks so that Mr Ngai to share his writing and life experience with all staff, students and alumni. Details are as follows:

2) Mr Lee Hon Ching's Night Talk

The College has the honour to invite a renowned artist, Mr Lee Hon Ching, to hold a Night Talk. Mr Lee Hon Ching was born in Hong Kong where he received his early education. He went to USA for higher education, and received his Master of Fine Arts degree (with honors) from the University of Oregon in 1967. He taught sculpture and printmaking at the college level for about twenty years, participated in many art exhibitions and national and international sculpture and printmaking conferences and symposia, and for eleven years directed a college art gallery which featured works by artists of national and international reputations and backgrounds. Dominant themes in his work are the universal ones of man and nature, man and his environment.

All staff, students and alumni are welcome to join “Mr Lee Hon Ching’s Night Talk”.

明德新民：聯合書院先賢書畫展

由香港中文大學聯合書院、文物館及大學圖書館系統主辦的「明德新民：聯合書院先賢書畫展」己於二零零七年三月五月正式開幕。是次展覽將於即日起至四月十三日於大學圖書館展覽廳，及四月十七日至五月廿七日於胡忠多媒體圖書館舉行，歡迎到臨參觀。

聯合書院名師輩出，在國學及藝術方面成就超卓。是次展覽包括多位聯合書院先賢之書畫墨寶，如蔣法賢、鄭棟材、伍憲子、呂燦銘、錢穆、李研山、鄭水心、馮康侯、熊潤桐、李撫虹、陳荊鴻、王淑陶、司徒奇、姚克、梁簡能、高明、李棪、王德昭、羅時憲、陳湛銓和蘇文擢等，實在不容錯過。

Enlightening Virtues, Renewing Man: An Exhibition of Paintings and Calligraphy by Distinguished Scholars of United College

The Opening Ceremony of the exhibition titled “Enlightening Virtues, Renewing Man: An Exhibition of Paintings and Calligraphy by Distinguished Scholars of United College” took place on 5 March 2007. The exhibition co-organized by United College, Art Museum and University Library System of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, is held from 5 March 2007 to 13 April 2007 at the University Library Exhibition Hall and from 17 April to 27 May 2007 at Wu Chung Multimedia Library. The exhibition is open to public.

This exhibition presents the Chinese paintings, calligraphy and publications by distinguished scholars of United College over the past half-a-century. The scholars include Jiang Faxian, Zheng Dongcai, Wu Xianzi, Lu Canming, Qian Mu, Li Yanshan, Zheng Shuixin, Fung Hong Hou, Xiong Runtong, Li Fuhong, Chen Jinghong, Wang Shutao, Situ Qi, Yao Ke, Liang Jianneng, Gao Ming, Li Yan, Wang Dezhao, Luo Shixian, Chan Cham Chuen and Su Wenzhuo etc.
