語文改善計劃消息
1. 暑期語文及文化交流計劃
本院十五位同學於八月二日前赴中國西安陝西師範大學，參加為期半個月之語文及文化交流計劃。同學除參加由陝西師範大學安排的普通話課程外，更有機會與陝西師範大學本科生進行交流，在他們指導下學習普通話，以及了解西安獨特文化。
另本院二十位同學分別於六月三十日及七月廿一日前往英國參加由愛丁堡大學舉辦之暑期語文及文化交流計劃。同學由當地家庭接待，並參加由愛丁堡大學安排的英語課程和參觀當地的歷史及文化景點。同學透過計劃除可以改善英語水平外，亦加深對英國文化的了解。
2. 語文改善計劃二零零七年度秋季課程
書院語文改善計劃秋季課程將由二零零七年九月三日起至十七日期間接受同學報名。為照顧不同同學的需要，書院將提供日間普通話課程，供走讀生優先報讀。章程及報名表格可到書院學生輔導處索取。如有查詢，請致電

News of the Language Improvement Project
1. Summer Language and Culture Programmes
15 students attended the Summer Language and Culture Programme at the Shaanxi Normal University from 2 to 16 August 2007 in Xian. The students had the opportunely to learn Putonghua and appreciate the Chinese culture under the close tutorship of Shaanxi Normal University students.
Two other groups of 20 students departed on 30 June and 21 July 2007 respectively to attend the Summer Language and Culture Programme at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. They attended English classes at the University of Edinburgh and stayed with local host families. The programme is designed to provide students with the opportunity to improve their English and also appreciate the culture of the host country.
2. Language Improvement Project - Autumn 2007
The Autumn 2007 courses of the College's Language Improvement Project (LIP) are
open for application from 3-17 September 2007. To cater for the needs of
different students, the College will offer daytime Putonghua courses this year
with priority being given to non-resident students. The programme prospectus and
application forms can be obtained from the Dean of Students' Office, United

學生會籌款成立書院服務獎
書院學生會一向積極鼓勵同學在不同範疇上貢獻書院，為同學服務。在聯合書院慶祝五十周年金禧這特別的一年，學生會誠意向同學、校友以及各聯合書院的成員募捐，冀能成立一個「書院服務獎」，對服務書院不遺餘力的同學表達謝意，亦藉以鼓勵聯合同學多參與不同書院活動，為書院及同學服務。
認捐表格現可於張祝珊師生康樂中心G06室學生會辦公室索取。
Student Union Raises Fund for Setting up the College Service Award
To better serve the community and the College, the Student Union encourages students to make contributions in various aspects. In commemorating the 50th anniversary of the College, the Student Union has decided to raise fund for setting up a College Service Award. The Student Union Executive Committee members cordially invite students, alumni and all College members to donate money in making this dream come true. The award will be given to College students who have actively participated in College and activities, as well as serving the College and fellow students.
Donation forms are available at the Student Union Office at G06, Cheung Chuk Shan Amenities Centre.
學生宿舍消息
本年度獲選宿生請於九月一日（星期六）下午一時至六時，攜同學生證及近照二幀，到有關宿舍辦理入宿手續。未能如期入宿者，必須於最少兩個工作天前以書面向舍監申請延期入宿，否則將作放棄宿位論。詳情請參閱有關通告或親臨書院學生輔導處查詢。
Hostel News
Hostel residents for the academic year 2007/2008 are advised to check-in at their respective hostels between 1:00pm to 6:00pm on Saturday, 1 September 2007. Residents should bring their student identity cards and two recent photos for registration. Residents unable to check-in at the scheduled time should apply in writing to the respective wardens for late check-in at least two working days in advance. Failure to do so may mean cancellation of the hostel places allocated. For further information, please refer to the College notice boards or contact the Dean of Students' Office.
二零零七至二零零八年度聯合書院岑才生學長計劃
本年度聯合書院岑才生學長計劃的配對工作業已完成。學長計劃統籌委員會將於八月底及九月初分別為學長及學員舉辦簡佈會，使參加者對計劃的目的及內容有進一步了解。此外，統籌委員會將於九月二十七日假九龍富豪酒店舉行迎新晚宴。各項活動詳情見附件一。
United College Mentorship Programme 2007/2008
The process of matching mentors and mentees has been successfully concluded. The Programme Coordinating Committee will organize briefing sessions for the mentors and mentees in late August and early September to enable all participants to have a better understanding of the objectives and activities of the Programme. An inauguration dinner will be held on 27 September 2007 to launch the Programme officially. Details of the Programme’s activities are as Attachment 1.
聯合書院國際演講會
聯合書院國際演講會自2005年9月正式成立以來，致力訓練聯合同學公開演講的能力及技巧。現時合共有五十一位聯合同學註冊成為會員。
同學透過定期參與會議，嘗試一連串有系統的練習，訓練英語演講技巧及即席演講的應變能力。同學亦可同時學習對其他參加者的演講作出有效的評價。
聯合書院國際演講會於本年九月十三日（星期四）晚上七時於曾肇添樓四樓蔡冠深通識資源中心舉辦示範會議，聯合書院國際演講會邀得多位極富經驗的國際演講會資深會員到場指導。

United College Toastmasters Club
Since September 2005, United College Toastmasters Club has been promoting English speaking skills and standard among United College students. The motto of the Club is “Take the Stage, Speak your World”.
At Toastmasters meetings, members have the opportunity to learn by speaking in groups and working with others in a supportive environment. Members receive trainings on impromptu speaking, public speaking and presentation, and effective listening and leadership through practice as well as the aid of structured training manuals and feedback from their fellow club members.
A demonstration meeting for recruiting new members will be held on 13 September 2007 (Thursday) 7:00pm at Choi Koon Shum General Education Resource Centre, 4/F Tsang Shiu Tim Building. Experienced Toastmasters will attend the demo meeting and give coaching on proper public speaking skills.

書院粵語辯論隊奪基本法盃季軍
書院粵語辯論隊以「聯合粵辯」為名，首次出師參加第九屆大專「基本法盃」比賽，於八月四日假香港文化中心露天廣場的比賽中以三比二擊敗對手，取得是項比賽的季軍。比賽的辯題是「傳媒編輯自主已被過份濫用」，本院為正方，反方是上屆冠軍「鳴辯無限」(即鄧鏡波舊生隊)。書院謹向各隊員致以衷心祝賀。
Debate Team Won 2nd Runners-up of the Basic Law Cup
The College Cantonese Debate Team participated in the Tertiary Sector of the 9th Basic Law Cup for the first time this year, and they won the 2nd runners-up by defeating the opponent by 3 to 2 on 4 August 2007 at the Open Plaza of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. The motion of the match was "傳媒編輯自主已被過份濫用" and the opponent team was the immediate past champion "鳴辯無限"(Alumni of Tang King Po College). Heartily congratulations to all team members from the College!
