Campus Health Ambassadors Programme

Entering into the fifth session of Campus Health Ambassadors Programme, the University Health Centre continues to organize this programme to train students as ambassadors, and promote health in campus and community in order to raise the awareness of health among students. The training programme will be held on 4:30pm, 1 and 2 November 2007 (Thursday and Friday), and whole day on 3 November 2007 (Saturday).

The features of Campus Health Ambassadors Programme are as follows:

- Selected participants will receive all-around training such as concepts of health promotion, nutrition and exercise,  knowledge in first aid and skills in presentation.

- Each group of ambassadors will be given thousands dollars to organize health promotion activities

- The ambassadors who finished the programme will be given certificates

- Prominent ambassadors will be selected to join exchange trip to Mainland University for free

- Ambassadors can also involved in health education activities in the community

Whole Person Development Award Programme Opens for Application

The Whole Person Development Award Programme was established in 2005, with the target to promote all round development of students in the undergraduate years.  It aims at encouraging the College students to participate actively and systematically in their pursuit of whole person development through participation and involvement in academic as well as non-formal educational activities. Participants are expected to join or organize activities grouped under the five core areas, which include Ethical, Intellectual, Physical, Social and Aesthetic.  Scores will be assigned to various activities under these areas, and participants will be given awards if they could score 30 points or more before graduation or 20 points in one academic year.  A quota of 500 has been set and students can browse the program details and register via the programme homepage http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/wholeperson from 12 to 25 September 2007.  For enquiries, please contact Mr. George Lam or Ms Amy Yeung of the Dean of Students' Office at 2609 7598 or 2609 7455.

Lockers for Non-resident Students 

Lockers in Room 109 of Tsang Shiu Tim Building are now available for loan to non-residential students. Interested students should apply in person during office hours at the United College Dean of Students' Office on 2/F of the Tsang Shiu Tim Building on or before 5 October 2007. Since only a limited number of lockers will be available, loan requests from hostel residents or students who have been assigned lockers in their respective departments will not be entertained.

The loan regulations are as follows:

1. A deposit of HK$50 per locker is required. Applicants should pay the deposit at any branch of Hang Seng Bank to:"The Chinese University of Hong Kong"(293-005005-001) Please bring the bank pay-in slip when making the application.

2. The lockers must be kept clean at all times and no valuables should be kept inside lockers.

3. A locker may be on loan to a student up to 31 May of his/her year of graduation. However, the College may stop the locker service by giving one month notice.

4. Before returning the locker to the College, the student is responsible for cleaning the locker and returns the key in person at the UC Dean of Students' Office. Deposit will be refunded through autopay.

5. Deposit will be forfeited if the locker key is lost. If the student wants to continue to use the locker, he/she has to apply and pay the deposit again.

6. Failure to return the locker keys upon the expiry of the loan period will result in the deposit being forfeited. Articles inside the locker will be treated as found properties.

The 15th Budding Scholars Exchange Programme

Applications are now invited from the students of the College to apply for the 15th College Budding Scholars Exchange Programme.  The exchange partner of this year will be Shandong University.  The College will select eight to ten students to conduct academic research on the topic of "Confucianism and Modern Enterprise Management".  Shandong University will also send the same number of students to United College in 2007-2008 for ten days, exact period to be confirmed.

UC Toastmasters Club

Since September 2005, United College Toastmasters Club has been promoting English speaking skills and standard among United College students. The motto of the Club is "Take the Stage, Speak your World".

At Toastmasters meetings, members have the opportunity to learn by speaking in groups and working with others in a supportive environment. Members receive trainings on impromptu speaking, public speaking and presentation, and effective listening and leadership through practice as well as the aid of structured training manuals and feedback from their fellow club members.

A demonstration meeting for recruiting new members was held on 13 September 2007 (Thursday) 7:00pm at Choi Koon Shum General Education Resource Centre, 4/F Tsang Shiu Tim Building. Experienced Toastmasters attended the demo meeting and gave coaching on proper public speaking skills. The Club will hold the Inauguration Ceremony on 24 September 2007 (Monday) 7:00pm at at Choi Koon Shum General Education Resource Centre. All members are welcome to witness the Ceremony.

"United College Dinner"

The United College Dinner was first launched in 2006 and its main objective is to facilitate more interactions between the College staff and students outside class.  It is a part of the College non-formal education.  The first gathering of this year will be held on 4 October 2007 and the details are as below:
