文化藝術活動

為了提高校園的文化藝術氣氛和舞蹈欣賞能力，聯合書院於本學年邀請了城市當代舞蹈團為「駐院藝術家」，並會舉辦一連串的舞蹈訓練和欣賞活動，舞蹈團的簡介和活動詳情如下：

「城市當代舞蹈團」簡介

城市當代舞蹈團是香港一所非牟利演藝機構，於一九七九年由現任藝術總監暨行政總裁曹誠淵創立。舞團演出的作品風格變化多樣而別樹一幟，曾多次被邀代表香港到海外演出，以別具創意而又富有香港特色的製作贏得美譽。

除已於十月九日舉行之「音樂劇舞之夜」外，城市當代舞蹈團尚會為聯合員生舉辦下列活動：

(1) 雙人舞及接觸即興之夜

Art and Cultural Activities of United College

To cultivate the art and cultural interests of staff and students, the College has invited City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) to be the "United College Artists-in-Residence" for 2007-2008. The College will organize a series of dance activities and training. The introduction and details are as follows:

Introduction of CCDC

As the flagship of modern dance company in Hong Kong, CCDC is renowned for the distinctive and yet diverse style of its programmes. It is a charitable performing arts organization founded by its present Artistic Director and Chief Executive Director, Willy Tsao in 1979. It is also a touring company, representing Hong Kong and enlightening audiences worldwide with innovative dance works of highest artistic standard.

Apart from the Night of Musical Dance held on 9 October 2007, CCDC will organize the following activities for UC members:

(1) Partnering skills and Improvisation

二零零七至零八年度「到訪傑出學人」張亞平院士

書院本年度的「到訪傑出學人」為中國科學院昆明動物研究所所長張亞平院士，他將於十一月十八日至廿七日到訪香港。

張亞平院士致力於研究人和動物的進化歷史和遺傳多樣性，在DNA水平系統內澄清了一些重要動物類群的演化關係，領導建立起中國最大的野生動物DNA庫以及相當規模的中國人群DNA庫，從核外基因組的角度揭示了東亞人群的一些演化歷史。於二零零二年，他成為第一位獲得國際「生物多樣性領導獎」的亞洲學者，並於二零零六年獲頒長江學者成就獎。

張亞平院士是次訪問期間將主持兩次公開講座，講題及詳情如下：

講題：從DNA看中國人的起源與演化歷史 (普通話)

2007-08 Distinguished Visiting Scholar – Professor Zhang Yaping

Professor Zhang Yaping, Academician and Director of the Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, will visit United College between 18 and 27 November 2007 as the Distinguished Visiting Scholar in 2007-08.

Professor Zhang is an expert in molecular evolution and population genetics and has won world-wide recognition by integrating molecular biology with traditional zoology in his research. He was the first Asian scholar to receive the Biodiversity Leadership Award in 2002 and won the first prize of the 2006 Cheung Kong Achievement Awards.

During his visit to United College, Professor Yuan will deliver two public lectures. The details are as follows:

Topic: The Origin and Evolution History of Chinese: Insight from DNA (in Putonghua)

《聯合邁進》創刊號

為了弘揚書院精神及加強聯合人的凝聚力，共同邁向更豐盛的未來，書院自本年度起出版一份名為《聯合邁進》的新刊物，創刊號已於十月十二日聯合書院五十一周年院慶典禮當日正式出版。第一期內容是金禧院慶活動精華，並分為三個系列﹕〈金禧院慶活動系列〉、〈金禧院慶人物系列〉和〈金禧院慶校友系列〉。創刊號將分發予校內各單位、各大專院校、公共圖書館、所有聯合校友及香港各中學。各位亦可瀏覽《聯合邁進》網上版http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/uc/uwa/。

Inaugural Issue of "United We Advance"

The College is pleased to announce that the Inaugural Issue of "United We Advance" was published on 12 October 2007, at the College's 51st Anniversary Ceremony. The publication of United We Advance is to promote the College spirit, strengthen the bond of UC members and create a more prosperous future together. The first issue features the celebration activities of the 50th Anniversary of United College. The inaugural issue will be distributed to the various departments/units of the University, tertiary institutions, public libraries, secondary schools in Hong Kong as well as all UC alumni. The online version of United We Advance is also available at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/uc/uwa/.

The second issue of United We Advance will be published in February of 2008. It will focus on how the development of the Department of Electronic Engineering of CUHK, firstly instituted at United College, grows with Hong Kong. The Editorial Committee of United We Advance also invites articles from staff, alumni and students of United College. Please feel free to share your feelings towards College life, teaching or learning. There are no restrictions on the topic, language and genre. Photos are welcome too.

署理書院輔導長任命

書院輔導長王香生教授將於二零零七年十月二十一日至二十四日休假，由生物系朱利民教授出任署理輔導長。

Appointment of Acting Dean

Professor Wong H S Stephen, Dean of Students will be on leave from 21 – 24 October 2007. Professor Chu Lee Man, Department of Biology, will be the Acting Dean of Students during the above period.

「童軍領袖」訓練計劃

書院與香港童軍總會合作，於本學年推出世界公認的童軍領袖木章訓練課程，內容理論與實踐並重，包括領導才能、露營、遠足、地圖及指南針閱讀、團集會技巧、先鋒工程、野外烹飪及步操訓練等，從而提昇個人的策劃及組織能力、解難能力、創造力、人際溝通技巧及表達能力。有關木章的資料可瀏覽 www.woodbadge.org網頁。

「童軍領袖」訓練計劃以學年為單元，分階段完成「領袖木章」，所有單元紀錄均於香港童軍總會存有個人的紀錄。完成訓練單元的書院同學可獲相關的活動津貼，而此計劃亦將納入書院全人發展獎勵計劃之內，作為認可的領袖訓練活動之一。

對此計劃有興趣的教職員或學生請填寫以下回條，以便書院與閣下聯絡。參加者須出席此計劃的簡報會，日期為二零零七年十月二十三日或二十六日，晚上八時正於九龍柯士甸道童軍徑香港童軍中心，以了解計劃的詳程及具體安排。

Scout Leader Training Programme

The College and the Hong Kong Scout Association jointly introduce the "Scout Leader Training Programme" in this academic year, which aims at attaining the world recognized Wood Badge award in a progressive manner. The training programme is running on yearly basis, and the contents will focus on both theories and practice, including leadership skills, camping, hiking, map and compass reading, conducting meetings, pioneer projects, cooking and marching techniques, with ultimate aims to strengthen the participants' skills in planning, organizing, problem solving, creative thinking, interpersonal relationships and communicating. More of the Wood Badge award information could be obtained at www.woodbadge.org.

The Scout Association will maintain module records for participants in its Headquarters, and the College will provide subsidy to those affiliated students who have completed the training programme. This programme will also be recognized as endorsed activity in the College's Whole Person Development Award Programme.

Interested staff and students please email your personal information and contact methods to george-lam@cuhk.edu.hk on or before 18 October 2007, and participants are required to attend the briefing session held on 23 or 26 October 2007 at 8:00 pm at the Hong Kong Scout Centre, Scout Path, Austin Road, Kowloon.
