訃告
香港中文大學前校董會副主席暨聯合書院前校董會主席胡百全博士於二零零八年四月三十日息勞歸主，本院同人深表哀悼。
胡百全博士是法律界殿堂級人物，曾任香港律師會會長，貢獻至鉅。社會服務方面，歷任立法局非官守議員，行政局非官守議員，以勳勞卓著，獲頒CBE勳銜。
胡博士在中文大學創立之初，即積極參與籌劃校務，出任臨時校董會委員，八十年代中，更出任大學校董會副主席。胡百全博士在中大校董會出任屬下多個委員會職位，尤其在校園建設方面，胡博士曾任校園計劃及建設委員會主席，在校政方面有極大的貢獻。胡百全博士與聯合書院關係至深，在聯合書院發展的關鍵時刻，協助鄭棟材校長發展校務，成立基金會，完善校內設施，為書院日後發展打下良好基礎，並於一九七二至八三年出任書院校董會主席，領導校政工作。為表彰胡博士的豐功偉績，中文大學特頒予榮譽法學博士，大學校董會終身校董。聯合書院校董會亦聘請為永久校董，並將書院一所走讀生舍堂任名「百全堂」，以誌永念。
胡百全博士與中文大學的關係逾四十年，為中文大學及聯合書院的發展，勞心勞力，無私奉獻。中文大學及聯合書院有今日成績，與胡博士的貢獻分不開，本院同人永遠緬懷胡百全博士在本港高等教育的成就與貢獻。
Obituary
United College records with deep sadness the passing away of our Permanent Trustee, Dr. the Hon. P.C. Woo, on 30 April 2008.
Dr. the Hon. P.C. Woo was a prominent legal figure and was the President of the Law Society. He was also active in community service and had been the former executive councilor and legislator and was honoured the Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE).
Dr. Woo gave his staunch support to the University as a member of the Provisional Council of the University, member of the University Council and Vice-Chairman of the University Council as well as Chairman of the Campus Planning and Building Committee of the University. He had also served on various Council Committees over the years. Dr. Woo was also committed to the development of United College and assisted Dr. T.C. Cheng to establish the United College Endowment Fund Committee, helped to enhance College facilities and laid a solid foundation for United College to flourish over the years. He was the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the College from 1972 to 1983. He was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws and appointed a Life Member of the Council of the University as well as Permanent Trustee of United College. A non-residential hall of United College was also named after Dr. Woo in recognition of his remarkable leadership and contribution.
Dr. Woo had been closely associated with United College and the University for over 40 years and had made distinguished contributions. His significant accomplishments to the development of the tertiary education in Hong Kong will be forever cherished.
本院校董會永久名譽主席獲中華慈善獎終身榮譽獎
本院校董會永久名譽主席邵逸夫博士獲中國民政部頒發二零零七年度「中華慈善獎終身榮譽獎」，以表彰邵博士一直以來對國家的慈善捐贈。此獎是國家慈善領域的最高政府獎項。

Permanent Honorary Chairman Honoured with a Lifetime Honorary Award from the China Charity Awards 2007
Dr the Honourable Run Run Shaw, Permanent Honorary Chairman of Board of Trustees, United College, was honoured with a lifetime honorary award from the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People's Republic of China for contributions to China's charities. The China Charity Award is the most prestigious philanthropy award in Mainland China.

聯合書院張煊昌博士導修計劃啟動儀式
聯合書院張煊昌博士導修計劃啟動儀式已於二零零八年四月十九日順利舉行。是日蒙書院校董會副主席、書院基金會主席、書院校友會會長暨導修計劃贊助人張煊昌博士親臨主禮，出席嘉賓包括書院院長馮國培教授、導修計劃工作小組召集人張雙慶教授、工作小組成員、書院同仁、宿舍樓導師與及同學代表。儀式後於走讀生舍堂舉行茶會。
聯合書院一向重視學生輔導，希望能在學業、生活以至身心健康各方面協助有需要的同學，年來一直構思設立一個在宿舍層面(包括走讀生舍堂在內)的導修計劃。為進一步了解同學的需要，去年十一月，書院於書院聚會時間向同學進行問卷調查，目的是了解聯合書院學生在成長、學業、交友以及經濟四個方面所面對的問題，作為書院組織學生導修計劃的基礎。結果發現約半數同學對自己有很多不滿的地方，常擔心自己會失敗，亦有約半數同學認為學校的師生關係非常疏離，超過五成的同學常擔心自己的前途，這反映出同學無論在生活或學業上都充滿壓力。有鑑於此，書院認為必須正視學生情緒及學業上的問題，決定成立「聯合書院張煊昌博士導修計劃」，由書院導師及宿舍樓導師合作，結合年輕人喜歡於網上交流意見的特點，設立一個網上平台「聯合講 場」，供同學發表己見，抒發情緒，與書院導師及宿舍樓導師進行交流，以導修的形式，協助解決日常生活或學習上的疑難。網址為 http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/uc/ucforum。
United College Dr Thomas Cheung Tutorial Scheme Kick-off Ceremony
The Kick-off Ceremony of the United College Dr Thomas Cheung Tutorial Scheme took place on 19 April 2008. The officiating party comprised Dr Thomas Cheung, Vice-Chairman of the United College Board of Trustees, Chairman of the United College Endowment Fund Committee, President of the United College Alumni Association and Donor of the United College Tutorial Scheme; Professor Fung Kwok Pui, Head of United College and Professor Chang Song Hing, Convenor of the Working Group on Tutorial Scheme. Attending the ceremony were members of the Working Group on Tutorial Scheme, officers of the College as well as resident tutors and students. The ceremony concluded with a tea reception in the non-residential hall.
United College has pledged, through its mission statement, to provide pastoral care to all its students, offering them help in their academic pursuits, guiding them towards better mental and physical health and generally preparing them for the life ahead. In the past year or so, the College had a cause to plan for the establishment of a tutorial scheme that operates at the residential hall level. A questionnaire was distributed last November to the students to gauge their needs, their views and their reactions to such a scheme. The questionnaire was designed to find out the problems the students most frequently face in their studies, the difficulties they encounter in making friends, in meeting their financial obligations and the setbacks perceived in their personal development. The results show that some 50% of the respondents have been under a great deal of stress. More than half of the students answering the questionnaire had low opinions of themselves, they feel alienated, they fear that they are doomed to fail in their pursuits, and they worry about their future. The College was of course concerned with these revelations and was quite determined to tackle the problem by establishing the UC Forum under the support of the "United College Dr Thomas Cheung Tutorial Scheme". The Forum consists of a networked platform managed by the College tutors and resident tutors. It takes advantage of the young people's affinity to the internet and opens up an electronic venue where the College's staff and students alike can freely speak their minds, vent their feelings, share their experiences and help each other with their problems in a tutorial setting. The 100th Meeting of the Assembly of Fellows will be held on Friday, 6 June 2008 at 11:00am in the College Board Room.
《藝術中與西》工作坊
由聯合書院二零零七至零八年度駐校藝術家利漢楨教授及中大藝術系兼任講師張惠儀博士主持的《藝術中與西》工作坊，已於二零零八年四月九日完滿結束。工作坊分為中國藝術及西方藝術兩部分，參加者不單從專題講座中學到不少有關藝術作品的知識，並有幸得到利教授親身指導，進行浮雕版畫創作，實在獲益良多。
"Art East and West" Workshop
"Art East and West" Workshop, led by Professor Lee Hon Ching, Artist-in-Residence of United College in 2007-08, and Dr Cheung Wai Yee, Part-time Lecturer, Department of Fine Arts, concluded successfully on 9 April 2008. The Workshop covered the two main streams in Chinese and Western Art. Participants learned a lot from the lectures as well as got hands-on experience in printmaking under Professor Lee's instruction.
