Professor Wong Suk-ying was appointed as Associate Dean (Student Affairs) of Faculty of Social Science, with effect from 1 August 2008.

聯合書院員工培訓工作坊
聯合書院在2008年6月21日舉辦了為期一天的員工自我增值培訓工作坊，目的是要增強同事間的團隊精神、幫助他們發掘內在潛能，令書院各項工作更有效地配合大學的最新方向和發展。當天有超過二十位同事出席，參與多項趣味性和教育性兼備的培訓活動。書院希望以後能為員工安排更多訓練和學習的機會，更進一步提升書院優秀員工們的工作能力和滿足感。
Staff Training Workshop — “Enhancing Your Potentials in the Changing World of Success”
Over 20 staff members from the College participated in a whole-day training workshop on Saturday, 21 June 2008. The objectives of the training are to strengthen the team spirit and enhance the potentials of staff members, and to align the course of the College's supporting units with the latest development of the University's direction. The College administration hopes to provide more training and development opportunities in the future for staff members who are among United College's most valuable assets.

本年度之「利希慎基金研究津貼計劃」及「書院基金研究津貼計劃」現正公開接受書院全職教職員申請。申請表格可從書院網頁 http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/uc/下載。查詢請致電2609 8654或2609 7580與本院陸敏兒女士或鄭佩純女士聯絡，截止申請日期為2008年9月26日。

Lee Hysan Foundation Research Grant and Endowment Fund Research Grant Schemes
Full-time teaching staff of the College are invited to apply for the research grants for 2008-09. Application forms are downloadable from the College's webpage at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/uc/. For further details, please contact Ms Amy M Y Luk or Ms Carol P S Cheng at 2609 8654 or 2609 7580. Applications will close on 26 September 2008.

訪問研究學人計劃
1) 訪問研究學人復旦大學吳松弟教授於2008年6月10日至7月25日期間蒞院訪問，與本院歷史系劉義章教授進行學術研究。
2) 訪問研究學人廣州中山大學張勇博士於2008年7月8日至10月7日期間蒞院訪問，與本院生物化學系(醫學院)鄭漢其教授進行學術研究。
Resident Fellow Scheme
1) Professor Wu Songdi, Resident Fellow from Fudan University, visited the College from 10 June to 25 July 2008 and conducted research with Professor Lau Yee-cheung from Department of History.
2) Dr Zhang Yong, Resident Fellow from Sun Yat Sen University, visited the College from 8 July to 7 October 2008 and conducted research with Professor Cheng Hon-ki from Department of Biochemistry(Medicine).

「教育作為人道援助的回應」研討會
聯合書院院務委員暨書院導師孔憲煇教授於2008年6月30日在聯合書院籌辦「教育作為人道援助的回應」研討會。
與會者包括聯合國教育、科學及文化組織核下「教育作為人道援助的回應」計劃主席牛津大學Dr Colin Brock、劍橋大學Professor Witold Tulasiewicz、培苗行動董事暨聯合書院前院長黃鈞堯教授、范氏慈善信託基金羅范椒芬女士、 黃錦輝慈善教育基金、周金生先生及香港中文大學校友會聯會教育基金會中國教育發展基金（小扁擔勵學行動）管理委員會主席張玿于女士。
此研討會首要目的為探討「教育作為人道援助的回應」的新概念，另一個目的是進一步了解以香港為基地及與香港中文大學有關的教育慈善機構的性質及工作，分享在國內發展及執行教育計劃時的制約和機遇。
此研討會由聯合書院講座津貼計劃贊助部份開支。
Seminar on "Education as a Humanitarian Response"
A small, invited seminar entitled "Education as a Humanitarian Response" (EHR), organized by Professor Joseph Hung, Fellow and Senior Tutor of United College, was held on 30 June 2008 at United College.
Invited participants included Dr Colin Brock, UNESCO Chair in Education as a Humanitarian Response, University of Oxford; Professor Witold Tulasiewicz, Senior Fellow of Wolfson College, University of Cambridge; Professor Wong Kwan-yiu, Director of China Care Fund Limited and former Head of United College; Mrs Fanny Law, The Fan Family Charitable Trust; Mr Chow Kam-sang, Director and Executive Officer, KS-KF Wong Charity and Education Trust Fund; Ms Jasminia Kristine Cheung, Chair of the Management Committee, Development Fund for China Education ("Xiao Bian Dan"), The Education Foundation of the FAA CUHK Limited.
The primary purpose of the seminar was to explore the concept of "education as a humanitarian response". Another purpose of the seminar was to better understand the nature and work of some Hong Kong-based and CUHK-related education trusts/charities, and to share insightful experience on the constraints and possibilities of running education projects in China.
The seminar was partially sponsored by United College speakers' Fund.
