新生輔導營
2008年聯合書院新生輔導營定於8月20至23日在書院校園舉行，主題為「聯合之巔，神話嶄現」。籌委會希望透過四日三夜的新生輔導營令新生感受到聯合書院的強盛氣勢，並透過參與輔導營的活動，發掘個人潛能，培養對書院的歸屬感，並最終以身為光輝聯合人而感到自豪。查詢請致電9317 8195與書院輔導營籌委會主席胡錦宏同學聯絡。
Orientation Camp
The 2008 United College Orientation Camp will be held on the College campus from 20 to 23 August 2008. The theme of the camp is “United Legends”. In the four-day-three-night camp, the Organising Committee hopes that freshmen can be enlightened by the College spirit, and feel proud to be a Glorious United Man. Through participating in the camp activities, freshmen can explore their potentials and develop their sense of belonging towards the College. 新生開學典禮
本年度書院新生開學典禮訂於2008年9月5日（星期五）下午1時30分假邵逸夫堂舉行，歡迎本院員生蒞臨觀禮，書院安排於當日正午12時假文怡閣舉行午餐，敬希教職員踴躍出席支持。午餐後將有專車送嘉賓前往邵逸夫堂出席典禮，並於合照後接載同仁返回書院。查詢請致電2609 7570與書院學生輔導處林偉源先生或何惠芬女士聯絡。
Initiation Ceremony for Freshmen
The 2008-09 Initiation Ceremony for Freshmen will be held on Friday, 5 September 2008 at 1:30 pm at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall. All College members are invited to join the College in welcoming this year's freshmen. Staff members are also invited to attend a luncheon at 12:00 nn at the College Staff Common Room. Shuttle buses will be arranged to take staff members to Sir Run Run Shaw Hall for the Ceremony and return. 學生宿舍消息
本年度獲選宿生請於2008年8月30日（星期六）下午1時至6時，攜同學生證及近照兩幀，到有關宿舍辦理入宿手續。未能如期入宿者，必須於最少兩個工作天前以書面向舍監申請延期入宿，否則將作放棄宿位論。詳情請參閱有關通告或親臨書院學生輔導處查詢。
Hostel News
Hostel residents for the academic year 2008-09 are advised to check-in at their respective hostels between 1:00 to 6:00 pm on Saturday, 30 August 2008. Residents should bring their student identity cards and two recent photos for registration. Residents unable to check-in at the scheduled time should apply in writing to the respective wardens for late check-in at least two working days in advance. Failure to do so may result in cancellation of the hostel places allocated. For further information, please refer to the College notice boards or contact the Dean of Students' Office.
邁進地球村計劃
1) 美國首都華盛頓考察團
本院二十二名同學於5月31日至6月14日前往美國作兩星期考察，透過講座、研討會及訪問活動等，加深對美國社會及政治制度的認識。本計劃由書院與港美中心合辦。
2) 暑期法語及文化考察團
本院三十名同學於6月15至29日前往法國圖盧茲修讀一個為期兩星期共三學分的基礎法語課程。除修讀語文課程外，同學亦透過不同的文化考察活動，加深對當地文化的認識。
3) 荷蘭烏特勒支大學暑期課程
本院二十五名同學於7月7至18日前往荷蘭烏特勒支大學修讀有關歐洲文化的課程。成功完成計劃的同學並可申請豁免修讀書院專題討論論文 (GEU4011)。
4) 暑期外地進修獎學金計劃
書院於本年度共資助十八名同學於暑假期間前往不同的海外著名學府，包括 University of British Columbia, University of California at Berkeley, University of California at Los Angeles及Harvard University修讀學分課程，以擴闊同學的國際視野。
5) 暑期語文及文化交流計劃
本院十一位同學於7月17日至31日前赴中國西安陝西師範大學，參加為期半個月之語文及文化交流計劃。同學除參加由陝西師範大學安排的普通話課程外，更有機會與陝西師範大學研究生進行交流，在他們指導下學習普通話，以及了解西安獨特文化。
另本院二十三位同學分別於7月5日及7月26日前往英國參加由愛丁堡大學舉辦之暑期語文及文化交流計劃。同學由當地家庭接待，並參加由愛丁堡大學安排的英語課程和參觀當地的歷史及文化景點。同學透過計劃除可以改善英語水平外，亦加深對英國文化的了解。
Globe-Oriented Active Learning (GOAL) Programme
1) Travel Study Programme to Washington, DC, Harrisburg and Philadelphia, PA
22 students attended the Travel Study Programme to Washington, DC, Harrisburg and Philadelphia, PA from 31 May to 14 June 2008. Through seminars and visits, students had the opportunity to gain a better understanding of American society in general. This programme is jointly organized by the College and the Hong Kong America Centre.
2) Intensive French Programme at the Institut Catholique de Toulouse, France
30 students attended a credit-bearing intensive French course (elementary) at the Institute Catholique de Toulouse from 15 to 29 June 2008. Apart from attending language classes, the Programme also included some sightseeing and excursion activities to enable the students to gain a better understanding of the local culture.
3) Summer Programme at Utrecht University, The Netherlands
25 students attended a summer course at Utrecht University in the Netherlands from 7 to 18 July 2008. The main theme of the course was "European Cultures and Identities".
4) Overseas Summer Studies Scholarships
The College provided scholarships to 18 students to attend credit-bearing summer courses offered by various renowned universities overseas including the University of British Columbia, the University of California at Berkeley, the University of California at Los Angeles and Harvard University.
5) Summer Language and Culture Programmes
11 students attended the Summer Language and Culture Programme at the Shaanxi Normal University from 17 to 31 July 2008. These students had the opportunity to learn Putonghua and deepen their appreciation of Chinese culture under close tutorship of Shaanxi Normal University postgraduate students.
Two other groups of 23 students departed on 5 July and 26 July 2008 respectively to attend the Summer Language and Culture Programme at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. They attended English classes at the University of Edinburgh and stayed with local host families. The programme is designed to provide students with opportunity to improve their English and appreciation of the culture of the host country.

書院語文改善計劃秋季課程將由2008年9月1日起至12日期間接受同學報名。為照顧不同學生的需要，書院將提供日間普通話課程，供走讀生優先報讀。章程及報名表格可到書院學生輔導處索取。如有查詢，請致電

Language Improvement Project - Autumn 2008
The Autumn 2008 courses of the College's Language Improvement Project (LIP) are
open for application from 1 to 12 September 2008. Catering to the needs of
different students, the College will offer daytime Putonghua courses with
priority given to non-resident students. The programme prospectus and
application forms can be obtained from the Dean of Students' Office, United

書院扶輪青年服務團成立四十周年暨第三十九屆幹事會就職典禮
聯合書院扶輪青年服務團於1968年成立，是本港首個青年服務團。四十年來，服務團本著「服務、學習及領導」的創團精神，積極投入社會服務及舉辦個人成長活動，為書院及社會培育服務型領袖，受惠學生與及本地和海外服務對象，數以萬計。為慶祝服務團成立四十周年及第三十九屆幹事會「共聚天輪」正式就職，服務團於7月15日假大學利黃瑤壁樓舉行慶祝活動，書院謹致衷心祝賀。除扶輪社地區主要負責人出席外，院長馮國培教授亦率領書院行政人員出席支持，並送出綴上「40」數字的大蛋糕，以表心意。
40th Anniversary and 39th Installation Ceremonies of Rotaract Club of United College
In 1968, Rotaract Club of United College was the first chartered Club in Hong Kong. In the past forty years, the Club has been providing active services to the local community and organising personal growth activities for its members, based on the mission "To serve, to learn and to lead". Thousands of College students as well as local and overseas service clients have been benefited from these services and activities. To celebrate its 40th Anniversary and the 39th Installation of the College Rotaract Club Cabinet "Unity, Care and Request", a celebration party was held on 15 July 2008 at the Esther Li Building of the University. Other than the District Rotaract members, our Head, Professor Fung Kwok-pui and College administrators also attended the occasion and donated a birthday cake marked "40" to the Club to show our heartfelt congratulations.
聯合書院國際演講會
聯合書院國際演講會自2005年9月正式成立以來，致力訓練聯合同學公開演講的能力及技巧。同學透過定期參與會議，嘗試一連串有系統的練習，訓練英語演講技巧及即席演講的應變能力。同學亦可同時學習對其他參加者的演講作出有效的評價。現時合共有四十四位聯合同學註冊成為會員。
聯合書院國際演講會於2008年9月11日（星期四）晚上7時於聯合書院曾肇添樓312室舉辦示範會議，聯合書院國際演講會邀得多位極富經驗的國際演講會資深會員到場指導。

United College Toastmasters Club
Since September 2005, United College Toastmasters Club (UCTMC) has strived to improve English speaking skills and standards among United College students. At Toastmasters meetings, members have the opportunity to learn by speaking in groups and working with others in a supportive environment. Members receive systematic trainings on impromptu speaking and public speaking through practice and feedback from their fellow club members. At present, 44 United College students have registered as members of the Club.
A demonstration meeting for recruiting new members will be held on Thursday, 11 September 2008 at 7:00 pm at Room 312, Tsang Shiu Tim Building. Experienced Toastmasters will attend the demo meeting and coach members on proper public speaking skills.
