學術研討會贊助計劃報告
第五屆國際可穿戴植入式軀體傳感網絡研討會(BSN 2008)暨第五屆IEEE-EMBS 醫療器械及生物傳感器國際暑期學校和研討會(ISSS-MDBS 2008)於2008年6月1至3日期間在中國香港香港中文大學成功舉辦。本院成員電子工程學系Professor Emma MacPherson負責是次研討會本地的統籌工作。
本次聯合研討會的主題是「創新健康技術：從生物傳感到醫學影像」。隨著新型可穿戴、植入式和無線傳感器等的技術進步，軀感網技術正被拓展應用於從臨床到家庭的廣泛領域的健康監測，在提高生活質量和醫療服務水平上日益發揮重要作用，並且推動了移動保健、遠程醫療等技術的發展。
繼前幾屆軀感網研討會在英國倫敦帝國理工學院(2004、2005 年)、美國波士頓麻省理工學院(2006 年)和德國亞琛亞琛工業大學(2007 年)成功召開，是次BSN2008是該系列研討會第一次在亞太地區舉辦。來自學術、企業和政府等多方面逾一百五十位人士參與是次會議。會議程序包括了來自二十六個國家和地區逾二百八十名作者的近百篇文章和報告。會議還特邀了十一位學術和業界知名專家、學者為研討會作特邀報告，其中包括美國國家科學院醫學部院士和美國國家工程院院士，五位IEEE/IEE Fellow等。聯合書院為是次會議的贊助單位。
Report on College Conference Sponsorship Scheme
The 5th International Workshop on Wearable and Implantable Body Sensor Networks (BSN 2008), in conjunction with the 5th International Summer School and Symposium on Medical Devices and Biosensors (ISSS-MDBS 2008), was held at the Chinese University of Hong Kong on 1-3 June 2008. College member, Professor Emma MacPherson from Department of Electronic Engineering was the local arrangements chair for this symposium.
The theme of BSN 2008/ISSS-MDBS 2008 was "Innovative Healthcare Technologies: From Biosensing to Medical Imaging". With the development of innovative wearable/wireless/implantable biosensors, body sensor networks (BSN) techniques are expanding for use in in vivo monitoring and intervention for both clinical settings and everyday healthcare. In this way, BSN technology improves the healthcare system, and stimulates the technical breakthroughs in associated healthcare fields, including m-Health and telemedicine.
BSN 2008 was the fifth annual workshop - it follows the successful BSN workshops held at Imperial College in London (2004, 2005), MIT in Boston (2006), and RWTH Aachen University in Aachen (2007), and it is the first time for this workshop to be hosted in the Asian-Pacific region. Thanks to United College's support from the Conference Sponsorship Scheme, the joint conference was well attended with the participation of around 150 people from academia, industries and government. The final programme and proceedings were comprised of about 100 papers/presentations by over 280 authors representing 26 countries worldwide. Eleven plenary speakers, including Fellows of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Engineering, and 5 IEEE/IEE Fellows, presented at the conference.

1) 決策科學與企業經濟學系趙先德教授於2008年7月1日至5日，出席在澳洲布里斯本舉行之第十三屆亞太決策科學會議，並發表論文一篇。
2) 機械與自動化工程學系李奕陽博士於2008年7月6日至10日，出席在韓國大田舉行之第15屆聲與振動國際會議，並發表論文一篇。
3) 化學系謝作偉教授於2008年7月13日至18日，出席在法國雷恩舉行之第23屆國際金屬有機化學會議，並發表論文一篇。
4) 心理學系助理王茜教授於2008年7 月13日至31日，分別出席在德國維爾茨堡舉行之國際行為發展研究學會第二十屆雙年年會、德國柏林舉行之第二十九屆國際心理學大會及德國不來梅舉行之第十九屆國際跨文化心理學大會，並發表三篇論文。
5) 地理與資源管理學系林健枝教授於2008年7月21日至25日，出席在美國康州舉行之第9屆國際環境噪音的生物效應會議，並發表論文一篇。
6) 政治與行政學系吳逢時教授於2008年7月23日至26日，出席在斯洛文尼亞盧布爾雅那舉行之第二屆全球國際研究研討會，並發表論文一篇。
7) 酒店及旅遊管理學院謝靜憶教授於2008年7月30日至8月2日，出席在美國喬治亞舉行之2008 International CHRIE Conference國際會議，並發表論文一篇。
8) 那打素護理學院林麗華教授於2008年8月4日至5日，出席在馬來西亞布特拉再也舉行之拉曼學院的學習與教學國際會議，並發表論文一篇。

Report on College International Conference Grant Scheme
In the 1st round allocation of the International Conference Grant, the College granted $81,770 to subsidise 21 staff to attend international conferences.
1) Professor Zhao Xiande from Department of Decision Sciences and Managerial Economics was invited to attend and present a paper at the 13th Asia-Pacific Decision Sciences Conference held in Brisbane, Australia from 1 to 5 July 2008.
2) Dr Li Yi-yang from Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering was invited to attend and present a paper at the 15th International Congress on Sound and Vibration (ICSV15) held in Daejeon, Korea from 6 to 10 July 2008.
3) Professor Xie Zuowei from Department of Chemistry was invited to attend and present a paper at the XXIII International Conference on Organomatellic Chemistry held in Rennes, France from 13 to 18 July 2008.
