訪問研究學人計劃
1) 浙江大學楊雷香博士於2008年10月27日至2009年1月26日期間蒞院訪問，與本院生物化學系鄭漢其教授進行學術研究。
2) 中國科學院昆明動物研究所孔慶鵬教授於2008年11月3日至12月2日期間蒞院訪問，與本院化學病理學系鄧亮生教授進行學術研究。
Resident Fellow Scheme
1) Dr Yang Leixiang from Zhejiang University, visited the College from 27 October 2008 to 26 January 2009 and conducted research with Professor Cheng Hon Ki from Department of Biochemistry.
2) Professor Kong Qingpeng from Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, visited the College from 3 November to 2 December 2008 and conducted research with Professor Nelson L S Tang from Department of Chemical Pathology.
講座教授
本院成員彭智培教授獲大學委任為眼科及視覺科學講座教授，由2008年10月1日生效。
Professorial Appointment
College Member, Professor Pang Chi-pui has been appointed Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences with effect from 1 October 2008.

1) 本院成員劉義章教授獲委任為歷史系客座副教授，由2008年10月2日生效。

《兒童肥胖國際會議：體育運動科學的實踐與效果》
體育運動科學系於2008年11月13至16日於利黃瑤壁樓一號講室主辦了本系首次以兒童肥胖為主題之學術會議：《兒童肥胖國際會議：體育運動科學的實踐與效果》。開幕典禮之主禮嘉賓包括：中大副校長鄭振耀教授、中大教育學院院長李子建教授、ICCO 2008 籌備委員會主席暨體育運動科學系系主任洪友廉教授、祟基學院院長梁元生教授、新亞書院院長黃乃正教授、聯合書院輔導長暨體育運動科學系王香生教授、逸夫書院院務主任簡麗嫦小姐及香港賽馬會運動醫學及健康科學中心執行總監容樹恆醫生。是次會議邀請了六位來自世界各地（美國、澳洲、日本、台灣及中國內地）及四位來自本地之知名學者蒞臨主講學術講座，並吸引了超過一百五十位來自十八個國家之人士報名參加會議，以及五十三份口頭及海報報告。參加的人士來自眾多界別，包括：體育及運動科學、營養學、物理治療學、公共衛生、護理學、流行病學、健康體適能及中小學教育人士，全面剖析有關兒童肥胖的最新研究成果。聯合書院贊助此國際會議的部份經費。
International Conference on Childhood Obesity (ICCO) 2008: Evidence and Practice from Exercise Science
The Department of Sports Science and Physical Education hosted the "International Conference on Childhood Obesity 2008:Evidence and Practice from Exercise Science"on 13-16 November 2008 at LT1, Esther Lee Building, which is her first ever international conference on childhood obesity. Officiating guests at the opening ceremony were Prof Jack C Y Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof John C K Lee, Dean of Education; Prof Youlian Hong, Chairman of organizing committee of ICCO 2008 and Chairman, Department of Sports Science and Physical Education; Prof Leung Yuen-sang, Head of Chung Chi College; Prof Henry N C Wong, Head of New Asia College; Prof Stephen H S Wong, Dean of Students, United College and Professor, Department of Sports Science and Physical Education; Ms Bonnie Kan, College Secretary, Shaw College and Dr Patrick Yung, Deputy Director, Hong Kong Jockey Club Sports Medicine and Health Sciences Centre. Six international scholars from the United States, Australia, Japan, Taiwan and Mainland China and four local scholars whose expertise in the relevant disciplines were invited to deliver speeches. The conference attracted more than 150 delegates from 18 countries, and 53 free paper presentations in oral and poster formats. The participants came from various disciplines such as sports science and physical education, nutrition, physiotherapy, psychology, medicine, public health, nursing, epidemiology, education, and health-related fitness, which shared the most update findings of childhood obesity from a holistic perspective. United College is one of the sponsors of this conference.
聯合書院聖誕聯歡會

United College Christmas Party
United College Staff Association Christmas Party will be held on Friday, 19 December 2008 at 12:00noon at the College Staff Common Room. All members are welcome to join. There will be fabulous Christmas cuisines and gifts for members, not to mention the grand lucky draw with many great prizes. The fee is $40 per person with generous subsidies from the Staff Association. 健康聯合人系列──健康講座
書院健康促進小組於2008年11月4日及7日舉行健康講座。講座一「齊來馬拉松」由書院與人事處及保健處合辦，主講嘉賓王香生教授及容樹恆醫生介紹長跑的準備及應注意的事項。講座二「驗身多面睇」由健康促進小組及書院生活委員會合辦，於書院文怡閣舉行，方玉輝醫生講解驗身的重要性及如何選擇驗身組合，參加者獲益良多。
Health Series—Health Talks
College Task Force on Health Promotion organised two Health Talks in November 2008. In "Let's Marathon"co-organised with Personnel Office and University Health Services on 4 November, Professor Stephen Wong and Dr Patrick Yung spoke on the topic of preparation for marathon. On 7 November, Dr Ben Fong shared the importance of health screening and the selection of health check packages in a luncheon talk co-organised with College Life Committee. The participants learned a lot from the talk.
